Simply outstanding television.
This is the best medical drama we've seen in years. Almost all the scenes are set in the ER department and they've provided us with a backdrop that reflects the gritty busyness and sometimes chaotic atmosphere of an inner city hospital. The many cases the doctors and nurses have to confront in each episode are challenging and we get to see most of the action even closeups of procedures. Yes, if you're squeamish there will be aspects of this show that will challenge you.The cast is superb. Marcia Gay Harden is outstanding. As with all good dramas there is lots going with individual cast members but we get to see so much real humanity. The compassion, the fear (from both patients and medical staff) and elation are all in abundance. The first hand training we see from experienced medicos to juniors and/or those who've lost some confidence is also very revealing and great to watch.We can't wait for season 2 to become available.

Most authentic characters you've ever fallen in love with
I'm a retired nurse, who has been in the civilian " trenches". This show is the most true to life, honest look at the reality of life in the E.R. ...and paramedic, on scene, situations, too. You get to feel like you KNOW the characters. They become real. I never missed an episode, and think it's a crime that it was not picked up for another season.

Great show - off air too soon. But I've got my copy.
Truly sad this show was taken off the air and season three isn't in DVD (yet). It's not flashy, campy, cute but a very awesome cast takes you on their journey in the ED. Marsha Harden is so good in this role.

Last disc does not work....
I would give this a 5 star, however, the last disc will not play so I will miss seeing 3 of the last shows on season 1. Otherwise this is a great show, I am so glad that I finally started to watch it.
