A HEAVY METAL MASTERPIECE
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from the quality of this vinyl. I had my doubts. However, I had a very pleasant surprise. The sound is spectacular. One of the best purchases I've made in quite some time. Otherwise, we already know that it is one of the best metal works of the 90s. Pantera was, without a doubt, the band that saved metal from the grunge debacle. For that reason alone, it deserves that everyone who calls themselves a heavy metal fan should have this masterpiece in their collection.

Former glam band's classic rebirth. Remaster is too loud and mix is still off.
The original 1990 CD has a lot of dynamics, but it just does not sound quite right. If cranked it does have some push, but it's also a bit weak and the mix is off.The remaster was pushed all the way to DR5 for not much gain and a lot of extra treble. I can't say I really agree with what they did here. Yes, it adds some sorely missing bass, but it also gives that original annoying drum kit in the treble even more presence. Too much in some songs. Two very different sounds greet you when doing back to backs. I honestly think this could have been pushed to about DR8-9 with a slightly better EQ and we would have had a definitive version. Instead, they crushed it too much and absolutely broke the high-end on the drums in some songs. Now, I know bands can remix and have lower DRs yet still sound good. Death's remasters and remixes have pretty low dynamic range but sound fantastic. I don't think much was done to these Pantera records for the remaster process but scanning them and compressing the sound. And for this early 90s/late 80s sound you really can't quite get away with that at DR5 without the album sounding a little too shrill. Even the Vulgar Display of Power remaster sounds better than this one for the most part. There are a few deficiencies in bass and tone with the original, but that was mostly how it was recorded. The originals by way of CD, vinyl, or HDtracks are your best bets for sound. The three disc remaster does have a lot of extra stuff on it if you are into that, but I'd keep both at that point too. The remaster is a disappointment, and so is the original in places. But if you can crank it, I'd prefer the OG for sure.

Doesn’t skip. Dime and Vinny shine thru.
Ok so I was hesitant to by this because I heard so much about it skipping. Heard mostly about that on the 2LP rhino remaster.Mine was a 1LP White & Whiskey Brown Marbled(swirl saturation was underwhelming but whatever)It came slightly warped and the sleeve was a bit wavy( not too bad)Played all the way through on both sides flawlessly. Dime and Vinny shine. Phil was a little sharp to the ears. Rex’s bass is a little muddy but not bad. Had to mess with my EQ a little bit. Not a bad buy. Snag it if you want to hear Dime and Vinny cut though. Better than any garbage from Slayer.
