Astromania Finder Scope Mount Universal Dovetail Base for Optical Telescope

Recently bought a telescope and discovered the finder scope was subpar and could not be collimated to the telescope so I bought a HUD optical finder with dovetail mount and ordered this base plate to hold the finder. Bolted up to existing holes. Rock solid. Finder fits like a glove and most importantly the finder is now collimated to the telescope allowing for fast acquisition of objects.

Ordered this to mount the SvBONY SV182 right angle finder scope on my Celestron Nextstar Evolution 8. This was advertised to "Fits factory drilled holes on Celestron...". Needless to say that the mounting hole spacing was about 1 mm off the spacing on the SCT. Forcing would have stripped the threads on the SCT and possibly snapped the screw. About 15 minutes of work with the Dremel on both slots gave me the clearance needed. After that all was hunky-dory. 3 stars because I had to modify to fit. Update: Received feedback from Astromania where they identify their B07JGZV9YQ or B07HHWGKS8 as having hole spacing that should fit the larger SCTs and not require any type of modification. Worth the slight extra expense to avoid any issues. Kicking up the rating to 4 for the customer service.

I like this product because it has two ways you can mount the screws side-by-side and up and down. I have multiple telescopes and I’ve ran into this problem. I would like to also add that the screws that hold the finder scope on aren’t oversized. I have had oversized screws that been very easily when bumped.I put this on my svbony 80mm refractor.

Nicely made, sadly it did not fit my Celestron C8 SCT (if any one is trying to order it for that one)

For anyone with a Celestron NextStar 8Se SCT, have no doubts, this dovetail base fits perfect. First, the two machine screws come off the optical tube factory finder base. Secondly place the new base in position and replace the factory screws into the tube. Wala, your done. The two screws supplied with the new finder base must be for other applications. My red dot finder lined up better than ever. The horizontal range is enough to line up objects perfectly, the vertical is close enough for all practical purposes. I like having two hold downs screws V.S. one. Its feels more secure. I'm totally pleased with this finder base. Get one, you won't regret.

The base is nicely made. I have no idea where. It has no Made in stamp on product or packaging. It comes with two 10-32 mounting screws and nuts. The nuts are black to be non-reflective on the inside of the tube. The screws may be a bit short for some tubes. I mounted this on a 1/4" wall PVC. Because the screws would be too short to get to the inside of the tube to use the blackened nuts, I tapped the two holes. If I was going to mount anything weighing more than a few ounces, this would be a bad idea. If you need to mount on a 1/4" thick or more tube, plan on buying some longer 10-32 screws.

I bought this for my Celestron Astromaster 114EQ Newtonian Telescope! The telescope came with a Red Dot Finder, which was plastic, extremely opaque, and difficult to use. I decided I was going to buy another finderscope for it, but I needed a way to mount it to the telescope, since the Celestron Astromaster 114EQ had it's fiderscope permanently mounted. I bought a Celestron Starpointer Pro and this Dovetail Base for it and went to work. After removing the old Red Dot Finder, I drilled a couple of holes into my telescope and attached this Dovetail Base to it. This Universal Dovetail mount was a perfect fit for both my telescope and the Celestron Starpointer Pro Finderscope that I purchased for it. Now I can finally spend less time trying to find things, and spend more time actually looking at the objects in the night sky! Plus there is the added benefit that now I can change the finderscope at my own leisure, if I feel inclined to do so in the future!

I used it to install a red dot finder. It is good quality but the price is a little high in my opinion

Lastima que no indican las limitaciones de incompatibilidad de este adaptador, con algunos instrumentos. Por ejemplo si el equipo en que lo pretendía utilizar, solamente tiene un (1) tornillo de soporte. No hubo forma de acoplar.

Installed easily on my GT81 refractor using one of the supplied screws. Good fit and quality.

Arrived quickly and in good condition.

Installed easily and mounted Celestron 51635 Star Pointer to base with no issues. Good stable base.
