Great first dive into Japanese history
I didnโt have high expectations because for the most part it has been hard to find a book that summarises the whole history of Japan. This book manages it. The book provides a complete view of its history, while of course it doesnโt get into detail the book itself provides ample sources and bibliography of the reader wants to further his study. Surprisingly it covers all historical facts and also it provides an insight into Japanese culture, specially for western readers. Chapters on Buddhism, on art, you name it. Helps to understand history and Japanese culture very well. The paperback copy I bought is strong, itโs really good to touch. Highly recommended to start learning Japanese history!

To be honest I cannot comment too much on this but it was the best book available for an EPQ that my daughter is currently doing. It contained information that could be used for referencing on the era's from Japanese hiistory that she is studying plus much, much more. But for research use this book and also look elsewhere eg: Japanese Historians and the National Myths, 1600-1945: The Age of the Gods and Emperor Jinmu By John S. Brownlee A Modern History of Japan: From Tokugawa Times to the Present By Andrew Gordon pp and of course questia.com. Good luck.

Japan Deciphered!
This is one of the most stunning books I have in my whole collection. If I about its language and way of telling is intermediate, not too easy and not too hard. Every section from beginning to late World War 2 era has been described in it. A great buy for all, whether you want quick refrences before travelling to Japan and know their traditions and history especially or for your academic purposes. Binding is also great. Hence a great buy :)

Good quality
If you know very little to nothing about Japan's history this book is a good start, I think.
