There are 3 parts to the tapper - the punch, the hole, and the lever. Place the little hooks of the lever under the rim of the can with the punch on the top of the can. Keep tension on the lever while pushing the punch into the lid. Only a dribble will come out of the V-shaped hole. So you have to punch another hole to let air in. Don't push that one in as far, just about half way - enough for air. It takes practice to get the tension and the punch together. Millions of these have been used.
