This is a very nice plastic chess set - the pieces are triple weighted so they have a good feel to them. The chess board is a mousepad board, which rolls out very flat. The set I got had 2 pieces with loose weights (the pieces rattled when moved) and the board had a mark on it. I contacted House of Staunton and they quickly (and I mean in 2 days) got me a replacement board and a replacement for the 2 pieces. Fantastic customer service! Now the set is perfect. I experimented with one of the loose pieces and was able to peel back the felt a little and put some glue in - that stopped the rattling. However, I didn't have to do that as House of Staunton was so great about getting me a perfect piece. It rolls up nicely in the quiver case, although there's not a lot of extra room in there for anything except the pad and the pieces. As far as the mousepad goes - I've had vinyl, mousepad and silicone. If you are going to be playing anywhere near water, don't go with the mousepad - it is not water friendly and will show stains even from pure water. However, it rolls out completely flat and does not have the odor that the other two pad types do. So each has advantages and disadvantages and it depends on how you are going to use them. If indoor play not near liquids - the mousepad is great. Otherwise, I'd try one of their other sets that come with vinyl or silicone boards. Cannot recommend House of Staunton supplier enough. 5 stars for the product and 10 stars for them.

The chessboard material is very cheap. The original one is made from rubber but this one is made from cheap material.

This set is the perfect size, not small at all and the pieces are nicely weighted and feel super nice to play. The mousepad board is awesome, lays super flat and isn’t an issue if you prefer to slide your pieces. No dissatisfactions whatsoever. As for the travel bag, I won’t be using it but it seems like it would work just fine if your traveling. For its price, I definitely recommend buying this set.

The first set that I received had 4 black knights and 0 black rooks; so basically, I got two knights in place of the rooks. The white set was correct. I also noticed that one of the four knights rattled. The weights aren't glued or secured well, so it feels rattly. Customer service was very nice and helpful. They even shipped the rooks to me first class. Disappointingly, one of the rooks that was sent also rattles. The boards is fine. It's exactly what you expect from the mousepad type board. The pieces that aren't rattly are fine. They feel ok, and they are weighted well so they don't tip easily. The sizes all seem to be correct. Overall, I'm happy at the price I paid. Just know that quality control may be slacking a little these days, so thinks may not be perfect.

This is an outstanding set for the money. I love how the bag is exactly sized to the board and pieces. Roll the board up, fabric side out, then throw the pieces in the open hole that's created from the board. The bag can just barely squeeze a DGT travel clock if you throw larger pieces in first, then smaller pieces, then shake the bag, then clock. The bag isn't stressed and I don't fear it tearing--and it's as compact as you're going to get. If you were hoping to carry a larger clock in the bag, forget about it. For my specific use case it's perfect. The pieces are cream white and matt black and don't scare when being tossed around. The board is a nice print, lays flat, and looks great. Highly recommended set.
