What type of steel is the blade made out of?

Research indicates these knives are possibly made under contract by Kershaw, that means the type of steel since it is manufactured in China in their factory will likely be 8Cr13mov or possibly 420HC. Having used several of these bought locally, my guess is the 8Cr13mov, both have some toughness when tempered, the 420HC is a little better & usually more expensive, though that may be a matter of opinion. I always look at the price to performance ratio, & the Milwaukee Fastbacks are great value per dollar.

Whats the point in this blade style?

As an electrician at Intel, this is the ONLY blade style allowed on property. Only curved end type blades. Anything else will get you walked off the property and fired. This is a great stripping knife for stripping wire, especially very large gauge wire.

Where can I find replacement blades?

From my understanding you just need to replace the whole knife. These blades are not interchangeable.

Would this cut through 5mm thick 12 ounce hardened (thick hard shoe sole) leather, fairly easily slice up a hide?

It's just a knife with a hawkbill blade so if a regular knife will then this will. But I do love mine I carry it 7 days a week.

Great knife — sharp, durable, and super easy to open one-handed. The hawkbill blade makes pull cuts smooth and controlled, especially on tougher materials. Feels solid in hand and the clip is sturdy. Definitely built for real work.
