Will this hold a 23ft cuddy on ariver?

Hi Mr. Albert,It really depends on the conditions of the river and also the weight of your boat. This unit will retrieve a max anchor weight of 35lbs but TRAC recommends not going over 30LBs as often sticks and mud can come up with the anchor adding additional weight. If the river is a very strong current then it might not be sufficient. So the bottom line is will your boat be held in place in the rivers you anchor in with a 30LB anchor (it is also recommended that a river or mushroom anchor be used) ... Whats the rope strength?

1/4" nylon para cord....never had an issue in 9 years......pulls anchor out of muddy bottoms without issue.

Upon retrieval, does the anchor sit firmly in a horizontal position, or does the anchor hang down (dangle) vertically?

The anchor is going to hang down. Not sure if you can adjust so anchor sits horizontal.

have a 21 ft. stripper fishing boat. It weighs about 5,000lbs. Would like an electric anchor winch. What do you suggest? Cost to install?

I installed mine on a 185 Bass Tracker. I had to get a new relay when I first got it but thats the only problem I've ever had with it..I removed the braided steel cable and installed a 1/4" braided nylon line. which has worked like a Champ.
