Probably as nice a backgammon set as you can get under a hundred bucks. If you want something nicer than this, you'll have to step up your money a good bit.The checkers are nice weight, and remind me of the kind of phenolic used in some pool balls. The cloth field is slick enough to slide your pieces around easily. The dice and dice cups are predictably mediocre quality. The hinges are sufficient, and not unattractive, and the latches are nicer than expected, being milled brass as opposed to stamped, gold-toned sheet metal, and when they are closed, they give a higher quality appearance because the gaps between the latch and the latch pin are so tight.Obviously, this is not a leather set, but rather a "leatherette" one, and I suspect, over years, its synthetic nature will show, especially on the points on the playing field. But, as I said, you aren't paying $400, you're paying under a Benjamin.Overall, it's good and reminds me of the set on which my mom taught me.I only wish there were more color choices.

Perhaps I don't know enough about the world of backgammon sets, but when I opened this set the first thing I thought was that it looked and felt extremely cheap. Like Chinatown bin toy cheap. Upon closer inspection some sides were coming unglued already. The hinges are very low quality and I can't imagine them lasting more than 5 years, tops. Is there some magic to backgammon set manufacturing that I'm missing? Judging quality of such a low tech item is pretty simple: What are the materials worth + how much workmanship is required to build the product. For this set the sum of those parts should be closer to 30 or 40 dollars.

Board arrived with slight damage to outer vinyl. The fit of hinges and felt inserts was so poor I just had to send the backgammon board back. The shipment came in a timely manner and the return process was easy.

the rocks are a little small

I love my set. It is easy to take on an outing and set up a game anywhere. This is a quality set that I think I will have for many years.
