Chardin

This book exceeded my expectations. Well written, a pleasure to read, to know so much about Chardin's life and work. Beautifully illustrated. I was especially impressed at his painting some of his still lives on more than one occasion. You can't get too much of a good thing.

同シリーズをコレクション中。手頃なサイズと価格にして内容は豊富なカラー図版で画家の一連の作品と歴史を知るに都合良い新書形式の美術書と思います。とくにこの作家は日本ではあまり馴染みがないので貴重な一冊ではないでしょうか。

Great book. Excellent if not one of the best still life painters. Good illustrations.

It is a comprehensive and lovely book. Of course the artwork, especially the portraits, are so serene and lovely. The color prints are executed well on glossy paper. The commentary that accompanies is just enough presenting learned remarks in a very conversational way to the just above average art lover. The volume covers Chardin's life and artistic development. While I do not care for his still lifes, the portraits alone are worth the price of the book.
