Captain Kirk has nothing on our girl!
What a fabulous start to a new series. Absolutely wonderful and I must admit that i think the characters are terrific, the plot is stupendous and the merging of the two is stunning.A plot of murder, underhanded behaviour and schemes within schemes to end the life of our heroine. A wonderful independent, feisty woman who has attlee hard to overcome the lies spread about her and the court case that ended her career before it started. A murder on her ship in which she is framed as the killer. Throw in kidnapping, an AI, metal eating fish, giant spiders, poison, and 4 members of the crew that stand with her as she fights to clear her name. Can she convince others that she was framed and why?Hope the wait isn't too long for the next book - can't wait to read what happens next!

A great series opener!
An absolutely great first book in a new series. The characters are believable, the plot is amazing and combining the two makes for a superb story.A healthy dose of devious behaviour, murder, and more twists than a drunken snake, all aimed at bumping off Captain Liz Laika, a talented and incredibly resilient woman who has spent a long time striving to overcome the lies spread about her and the case that effectively ended her career before it had really begun. There is a murder on her ship which sees her set up as the killer. Throw in an illegal AI, some giant spiders, metal eating fish, poison, and a handful of loyal crew that support her as she battles to clear herself.I can't wait for the next book, to find out what happens next!

Non-stop sci fi action, buddy movie style
There was never a dull moment, and I enjoyed the inventiveness and the range of dangers and problems, but what I liked even more was the really varied group of main characters. The writing style never gets in the way of the story telling. This is classic sci fi brought up to date and I can't wait to read the next one.

Action, interesting/odd characters and a murder. Very enjoyable.
The Sci-fi setting and aliens, add to rather than distract from the story. The fact that several of the main characters are 'alien' has very little impact on events, there are no super-powers, no 'magic' tech or other get-out-of-jail-free effects. This helps the tale feel immersive and plausible.

Space Murder
Full of interesting and relatable characters this is the first story in a series I will be following. Nicki weaves a convincing and convoluted tale with plenty of humour and action. There is a mixture of species including Pox, a canine and Eugene, an AI. Gripping fast paced plot and let’s not forget the giant spiders.

A Delight
I thought space opera had died with E.E. Doc Smith, but no here it is, updated but still romping good fun. Nary a death ray nor a stator in sight, but the whodunnit meshes well with the interplanetary horse trading, and the characters are lively. My main question is, the rate at which this charismatic she-demon gathers new crew members like parquet flooring attracts fluff bunnies, how many books before she acquires a dreadnought ?

Fun!
I enjoyed this tremendously. A great story, with plenty of twists and turns. Interesting characters, quirky motives, a new planet. All good, really.

Fun and great characters!
This is a fast moving story full of a wonderful mix of characters of various alien species, humans and a lovable AI. For once I don’t mind it being the first in a series because I am not ready to say goodbye to them.

highly enjoyable
lately I’ve gotten picky about what I read, and try to stay away from anything depressing. I mean, why bother? So when a new book by anyone named Haverstock shows up, I check it out. I just started, and like, Nikki Haverstock’s Casino Mage series, so Space Murder by NL Haverstock and Nikki Haverstock seemed worth trying. I’m so glad that I did. It has a bit of mystery, a lot of action, some suspense, some humor and the good guys won. And none of them died. That’s a big plus! Another is that this book can be read as a stand-alone, but also has a hook into the next in the series, whenever it shows up. I’ll be waiting!

Loved this series
I hadn't read any books by Nikki before but the premise of this story caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a go - and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that the minute I finished book 1 I bought, and read, book 2 - then book 3. Good characters, interesting plots and well written. A cozy in space with a great crew - highly recommended.

wow WOw Wow
This story was very well written by Nikki Haverstock I could barely put it down. Murder mayhem and just plain good plot lines I could not get enough but was sad to see the cliff hanger at the end. Why do authors do that just make the story longer for goodness sake that’s why I didn’t give it 5 stars all because of the cliff hanger ugh

A different type of cozy
This book is a mix of space opera, adventure and cozy mystery. Captain Liz Laika and her crew are a likable bunch of characters. Their story is full of action and mystery and I liked how they interacted with each other. I am looking forward to reading more of their adventures.I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest and freely offered review.
