A life Saver!!!!
This water filtration system was a life-saver!!! Took it on a 10 day trip to NE Minnesota's BWCA wilderness and it was, by far, the singular most important element of the trip's equipment list! Simple, fast and perfect! I can't say enough good about this product! It truly was a "SOLUTION" to providing all 6 of us with a safe and fresh water supply!

So far so good!
I tested this at home with some stagnant pond water- it didn't take out all the color that some people like to see but there was a lot of dirt taken out when I backwashed to clean! Tasted fine and no ill effects! Will be putting it to a test on a 6-day backwater canoe trip and will see how it does!

Works very well, at a much lower price than others... though the flow is a bit slow
Like the headline says, this filter works very well and it's much cheaper than most reasonable alternatives. The flow of water was a bit slower than I was hoping for, and slower than other filters I've used, but it was fine.Nine of us just got done using this filter during a week in the Rocky Mountain backcountry. :) On one occasion, we had to fill it with water that had bits of algae and a number of tiny bugs swimming around in it. :| Thankfully, neither came through the other side, and no one got sick. :)As you can expect with a bag-type design, it can be difficult to fill it to the maximum level, so be sure to get a size that is bigger than you think you need. Having said that, the material does have some weight and stiffness to it, which helps.

A couple of important things to note
I wanted to do a test run with it before our actual trip - and I'm glad I did - as there are a few important things to take not of that are not detailed in the instructions.First off - on the intake end of the actual filter - there's going to be a white rubbery cover that capping the intake. The instructions won't tell you to remove this, and the water tube actually fits over this rubber cover - so the first time I set it up - I didn't realize it was a cover at all, and plugged the drainage hose into it - and obviously nothing happened. I realized it was a cap - not a fitting - and remove it - it does not come off easily, and I needed to use a pliers to remove it for the first time.Secondly, the filter unit itself has screw off portions on both the input and the output side - those have silicone seals inside of them - and those screw on ends needed to be VERY tightly screwed on in order for those seals not to leak. I hope those gasket/seals have replacement parts as I can see those failing under that much pressure. The dry run was with tap water - so obviously I'd expect it to perform differently with dirty water - but the 6l capacity processed to completion in about 5.75 minutes - so roughly 1l/min of process rate - which I thought was quite good. I can update this after my actual trip if my experience in real world use are different.Update after use:Leaving it at 4 stars for the reason noted above. Unit worked quite well - took her out for a spin on some river kayak camping, and it turned pretty dirty river water into something that was as clear as the tap water I brought, and didn't have an off flavor at all. Nice job. After I got home, it took a couple of days for me to dry it out completely - the filter itself remains pretty wet for a long time. I disassembled it to get it to dry out more quickly, and you'll need to keep an eye on your silicone rings in the screw off ends as one of mine fell out, and I didn't see it happen (but found it later).

Exactly what I needed
Replaced a pump filter with this, and was extremely happy with the decision. Everyone else who went camping with me were so impressed that they are buying one also. Some had issues with different brands of a similar type and plan to buy this one also. Great for larger groups. Make sure to back wash if it is not flowing.
