Very good device.
I bought it used but in very good state, like new, just with a small scratch on the screen not noticeable. The device works well, on route of 3,5 hours consumed 50% of the batter, changing setups and all, the screen sometimes doesnโt respond well, but not a big deal I think, you can set up the sensitivity on the configuration. The visibility is very good also, even with strong sun light. Over all happy with it.

GPS Unit Not as Advertised
I was very excited while waiting for this bike computer to arrive. After receiving it I'm really dissapointed. First thing, even after calling Garmin to be assure the unit is compatible with Birdseye Sattellite Imaging I discover the unit is NOT compatible with Birdseye. Second issue, the map included with it didn't even recognize my street or any around me, just a blank screen. At the price it sells for it could include a complete map. Third, while waiting outside in the sun for the unit to find the satellie, I discovered that it's barely visible in the sun. I have sent the unit back.

Best bike accessory I bought
This thing is a little gem when it comes for tracking your bike trips. There are many bells and whistles that I havenโt even gotten into yet but look forward to this summers adventures!

Not power-meter compatible
Didn't realise this was not compatible with power meters when I bought it. This was not clear enough from the sales rubric. Disappointed.

Garmin Edge Explorer 820 is OK. I think that I will keep it
I have boycotted Garmin for years, purchased Motorola MOTOACTV of which I like as well as the Garmin, just doesn't last as long on battery, but does play music . I tried the Polar V650 Cycling Computer and hated it. The interface of all of the devices are way behind, from almost all of the phone based apps. MapMyRide+ is probably the best one that I've used. I finally started liking Strava. I hate the Garmin interface, but the main reason I will keep it, is for the smaller bike mount display that interfaces with my strapless ANT+ heart monitor. It gives me the things that I want to see which is distance, speed/cadence, elapse time, time of day and heart rate. The Garmin connect gives voice feedback and reports temp which is nice. If you just want to know the basics, just use MapMyRide, MapMyRide+ or Strava . If you want something that has a pretty good display, does route navigation turn by turn, allows BT & ANT+ and has great battery life then this unit at 349 is not bad.

How you like it will depend on how you use it.
I suspect the reason for the vastly different ratings for Garmin Bicycle products, I think, is the expectation of the buyer. If you are expecting a GPS that works as well as your cell phone or even as well as some larger portable GPS units that plug into your car then you will be disappointed. Simply put, this is a primitive version of those devises because it needs to draws little power because of the small battery and can't off load any of the work. You will probably like this product if:* You pre-plan your trip on your PC and download the TCX or GPS files to the Garmin.* You are following a predetermined route that is already downloaded to the GPS.* You are asking for directions to a place less than a few miles away and your phone has no service.* You want to track where you were and upload the ride to a maps program.* You are riding in areas with no cell service and you need a device with the entire map locally installed.* You do long rides (100 plus miles) and just need a device that works once it is set up and will last MANY hours.* You use sites such as Map My Ride or Ride with GPS and want to download routes.* Optional - You want to download open source maps such as img files. You will might not like this if:* You think you can enter an address 50 miles away and get directions in 2 seconds like on a phone.* You are thinking of using this as a car GPS on any type of regular basis.* You do not know (or want to know) how to plan out long routes pre-ride on your PC.Where this really shines:The best use for this (for me anyway) is setting up rides on Map My Ride or Ride with GPS and then downloading the files to the GPS and then following the route. I just downloaded a 114 miles trip from Map My Ride and now it shows up on the routes lists. Now I know I will not need to keep looking at maps and queue sheets while riding.I hope the above helps you determine if this kind of GPS is for you. Please note the above reflects my personal experience on the Garmin 820 and its predecessor, the Garmin 800, but I suspect it is true for most of the small GPS units.

Clear screen and good connection with my Stages power meter and Garmin heart ...
Small and clear screen. I use it for both indoor training and outdoor riding. Clear screen and good connection with my Stages power meter and Garmin heart rate monitor. Recommended!!

AVOID BEING FRUSTRATED. PICK ANOTHER PRODUCT.
I agree with others who have posted reviews of this product, IT DOES NOT WORK! Avoid being frustrated and pick another product. Here is a basic overview of my experience of this product.I received product and downloaded every update available from GARMIN.The unit refused to recognize updates and the screen locked. Leaving the unit basically useless,.I contacted GARMIN support. The representative told me workarounds to correct issue while on the phone. Those did not work. The representative ,while on the phone with me, went and got a Explore 820 unit and tried the exact steps she was telling me to do. Those steps did not work for her as well! I was told to return the unit to Amazon.I returned the unit and received another Explore 820.Same issues as before occurred.I will be returning the 2nd Explore 820 I received and getting a refund.
