Very easily. You just push on the top which is very delicate. You don't have to apply much force to open this.

can you buy lid replacements? If so where?

If there is an issue with ablid you can contact OXO customer servicr and they will send you a replacement lid. They are absolutely wonderful and I have never had any problems requesting replacement parts (lids included) for any of their product line. You can find their contact info on their website
