iZombie: The Complete Second Season (DVD)

Even better in season 2
++++Warning, this will contain some season 1 spoilers, but no major giveaways from season 2 +++++This is, as most know, the CW's other comic book show. It is a different show based on the premise that if zombies have regular access to brains they can remain high functioning members of society, but if they go without brains for too long, they end up as "The Night of The Living Dead/28 Days Later" version of a zombie. The ironically named Liv Moore works in the medical examiner's office (providing her regular access to the brains of murder victims, whose personality traits and memories she temporarily takes on) and helps a member of the Seattle police department solve murders. For those who have seen season 1, the show keeps the case of the week format, but has multiple story lines going based on the events of the first season. Blaine and Major begin the season as cured zombies thanks to being injected by Liv at the end of season 1. Blaine finds a way to keep his food operation going in a more legal manner than season 1. Major ends up working for Max Rager, unwillingly, and Liv and Ravi continue to work finding a cure. Live becomes estranged from her family, Clive keeps digging into the Meat Chute murders putting Liv and Major at risk of being found out, and a returning Peyton begins a crusade to take down the local crime boss. There are a ton of different interweaving story lines over the course of the season that all ultimately end up tied together. Despite that, it never feels like the show is trying to do too much, and they do a great job balancing all the various arcs while still telling good case of the week stories. This season they really blend a lot more comedy into the show, usually based around the personality traits Liv inherits. Rose McIver shows off great comedy chops, and Rahul Kohli plays off her very well. David Anders continues to be great in his slimy bad guy, sometimes reluctant good guy role, and a somewhat mysterious twist late in the season leaves something of a cliffhanger for his character going into season 3. A lot gets revealed in the season, and while some of the story arcs are brought to a conclusion, it is set in a very intriguing direction going forward. There are also a couple great guest cameos by Kristen Bell, who did a solid for the show runners who also ran Veronica Mars, as well as Rob Thomas, of Matchbox 20 fame who shares a name with the show's creator. For those who get the blu rays, the show looks and sounds great. Given that season 1 was released only on DVD, I was never expecting to see a blu ray, but it is well worth the upgrade because the show's great visuals look so much better in the HD format. For extras it is very similar to the season 1 release. There is a 30 min or so except of the comic-con panel with the show runners and the main cast members, and deleted scenes on several, but not all of the episodes. It would have been nice to get some commentary tracks on a few of the episodes, but what is there is good. Overall it is a smart, funny, sometimes dramatic and enjoyable show. It does not take itself ultra seriously, and it definitely seems like the cast has a lot of fun and either has, or fakes great chemistry. It is not a "typical" zombie theme (although there is some of that especially toward the end of the season) but it works. I definitely recommend it.

A great season
I took a chance and ordered the first season of "iZombie" even though I'm not a big fan of the walking dead genre and got hooked on this quirky, often funny, occasionally gory series.Season Two is, in my opinion, even better. The actors seem more settled in their roles, for example, and the story lines contain some interesting twists and turns. Heroes, it turns out, may not be all that heroic and some of the villains aren't as evil as they at first seem. My point is that the writing went up a notch in this second season and that's a good thing.Speaking of the scripts; I was especially impressed by the fact the writers were able to deepen our understanding of the characters by exploring their interpersonal relationships without turning this season into a soap opera. That's not easy to do and there are several contemporaneous shows that have tried without success to do the same thing. I tip my hat, therefore, to these writers for pulling it off.The special effects are professional, but the series does not rely on them to tell the stories and, because I'm an old guy, I give the producers and directors high marks for that. A great series relies on storytelling, in my opinion, not on whiz-bang special effects that are too often used to cover up plot holes and sloppy narratives.A couple of final points: I very much appreciate both the music - which covers a wide range of genres and time periods - and the offhand references to old shows and even older movies that crop up in the writing. Like I said, I'm an old guy and I like the fact the writers drop these in at unexpected moments to help make a point or clarify a situation.A great season: I'm looking forward to the next one.

Good quality - no issues - loved this series !
I don't rate DVD's by if I like the show/movie... that's completely subjective & irrelevant. I rate on quality of the DVD itself, any problems or condition of it etc.English version plays perfectly and is high quality, no damage to the product. Highly recommend this version.Disclaimer: Vine Voice but bought this DVD for myself, did not receive it free or for any review

A must watch zombie tv show
iZombie was a good comic book and a fantastic television series. Rose Mciver isn’t given enough credit for her acting range. Each episode the main character Liv Moore takes on a new personality due to eating the brains of a newly murdered human.

Love This Season
This is one of my favorite shows on TV. The characters are an interesting blend. The storylines that come about because of Liv's brains supply are funny, scary, and sometimes totally unpredictable. My husband, adult daughter, and I really enjoy this show and hope it continues on for many seasons to come.
