This book is the perfect coffee table book in the head cover format. It provides short snap shot information about different types of explorers over the ages. It would act as a prompt to read more in depth about each individual but provides enough detail to demonstrate the difficulties and spirit of those pioneers in whichever environment. I would recommend the hardback version over the paperback

A quick and easy read, a modest overview.

I really enjoyed this read. This excellent summery / overview gives you a brief history of some 40 explorers, from lots of different fields of exploration. The areas covered are: Oceans, land, rivers, polar ice, desserts, earth & frontiers.They are from all over the world, men & women. Their personalities are also discussed, which is very interesting, as is the fact that many were multi-talented and multi vocational.This makes the reading very interesting as you are quickly on to a new explorer or subject. There are also many fine illustrations.It is type of book that makes you want to explore a little further about these people. This is a first class reference book.
