Review: Included tutorial pretty minimal - This was a fun project, I completed both birds over a week, only working a couple of hours a night. You could definitely speed that up by using a saw to help remove some of the wood. I accidentally started with the cherry wood included in the kit, it was fairly hard to cut into and I needed to strop the knife every half hour or so to keep the edge on it. However, the basswood block cut much easier. It took about half the time that the cherry did to carve into a passable bird shape. The included booklet only included simple steps on how to work on the bird and the video of it wasn't that much better. Serviceable, but I would recommend some tutorials on youtube to supplement the process. The knife included in the kit isn't top of the line, but it's still a great knife. The blade is not too thick, razor-sharp, and has a comfortable handle. The wood is good quality, mine had no blemishes at all in it. All in all, this is a great way to get started with wood carving. If you're interested in giving it a try, pick this kit up.
