Bead Embroidery (Essential Stitch Guides)

Onto the Next Step for Embroidery for me...
First off, I am a huge fan of the Royal School of Needlework books - they are lovely to look at, have wonderful history lessons and are easy to comprehend. I find the other books I receive that are not RSN, I usually compare and I should find what I like and disregard the rest.It is fun to add new touches to an old hobby. It has opened my eyes to new techniques and visually appealing objects, and I adore doing gentle work - I believe at 50 years old, I was born in the wrong century :)

The book is beautifully illustrated and easy to follow. It is advanced for a beginner like me but it inspires me to be better.

A Joy!
A great beginner's book in that it describes everything from the tools to the techniques and designs. It explains how to execute the designs with easy to understand color illustrations and step-by-step photographs. Featured are inspiring photos of examples from the author's private collection. A joy for embroidery and beading fans.

Inspiring Stitches, but Short on Projects
The newest book in the Royal School of Needlework series, this little volume is one of the best. While light on basic how-tos, it has an extensive and nicely written history of beadwork (often given short shrift in these books), and has tons of stitch diagrams.Three techniques get a focus in the large stitches section of the book. First comes beading in needlepoint. You’ll see why, in great close-up pictures, you should run your thread back through a line of beads that should be straight. You’ll also see, in every one of these stitched samples, many different ways to enhance a stitch using beads. These samples are a tremendous spur to creativity, as are the pictures of stitched projects. The second and third sections are less directly applicable to needlepoint, but still contain plenty of ideas. The second section use beads in free embroidery (embroidery on cloth). Many of these stitches can be done on a counted ground, so these ideas can also be used in needlepoint. The final section covers beaded fringes. Because they hang off the edge of your work, these could easily embellish a finished bit of needlepoint. It’s an idea you rarely see, but one worth exploring.Much as I liked the book, there were shortcomings. First off the book is pretty sketchy with details and tips for beginning stitchers. If these techniques are new to you, buy Sundance’s book on beading (reviewed here) to get started and then graduate to this book. In spite of the wealth of information in the RSN volume, good introductory material is needed to make this “essential.”Unlike some of the other books in this series, there are no projects. Because the ideas here are so clever, I would have greatly enjoyed some projects, at the very least a sampler for each technique.Even so, the book is a great value and a wonderful resource for those interested in beading in needlepoint.

This is the quintessential beading imbellishment book. Easy to follow and has surface linen embroidery, as well as, needlepoint canvas imbellishment treatments for all levels of stitchers to explore. It also so color combinations to work within your embroidery piece for enhancement. Great book.

Great book
I've got several books curated by the Royal School of Needlework and all of the are excellent: great pictures, great explanation. This one is also quite original and I really loved it.

Tolles Buch
Es enthält viele nützliche Informationen zum Thema Perlensticken, ist gut bebildert und auch bei nicht so gutem Englisch leicht verständlich.

The best for beaders!
This little book is packed with information on all aspects of bead embroidery, including a brief section on the history of beadwork. There are no projects; it is purely a reference book to show stitches and techniques which will, hopefully, give inspiration. It covers basics such as needles, fabrics, threads, types of beads and even other embellishments such as sequins and buttons. Many stitches are explained, each with beautifully clear diagrams and a colour photo. At the back is a section on fringes and edgings, again with both diagram and colour photo, something I have not seen elsewhere. The book is spiral bound so will open and lie flat, a major bonus when you are working from it.I consider myself to be an experienced embroiderer/beader but I found much to learn from this book and would recommend it unreservedly to anyone with an interest in doing bead embroidery.

Consigliatissimo!!
