One word Fabulous!
Well, more than one word, wonderful, fabulous, exciting, nerve wracking, tearful, sweet, and all around I just loved this one. You should read the whole series. I loved them all but had my favorites. This is one of my favorites! Thank you Katherine for a jump into the past with the gang. You have a wonderful imagination which all us readers benefited from !!!

Best One Yet.
I found the story riveting. I laughed, I cried and I enjoyed every bit of it. At one point I thought I was near the end of the book, only to find the story wasn't finished. The last part was both revealing and surprising. I had a hard time putting the book down. This book was a story in a story like so many others, but it added even more layers. I can't wait to read the next book. I will be unhappy when this series ends, I love the families and stories and seeing the family grow.

Disappointed
All the wonderful historical research that went into this story is overshadowed entirely by the increasing vulgar behavior and language of the male characters. The story is getting drowned out by the constant sexual innuendo and crass language and behavior when the “family” is together. This was not the case in the first couple of books and is a disappointing turn in these later books. I want to see the story progress and don’t really care whose junk is bigger, who can last longer and how many times in one day one of them had sex.

Battle of New Orleans
This is a difficult review to write because of the subject matter. Please take the author’s warning seriously. Before I get into my notes, let me say that I think that Katherine has done a magnificent job and I’ve given it 5-Stars. I’ve devoured the entire series; from the beginning it’s become one of my favorites buthis book is very different from the others. They all occurred during times of tragedy and/or war, but the emotional issues kicked everything up several notches. It’s set during the time of the Battle of New Orleans. The attacks and rape scenes are brutal, and the actual battles are horrific. The previous stories have men who are genuine warriors but also very romantic. The intensity of the situations in this story basically stripped the characters of their emotional filters, resulting in language crude enough to be called vulgar. I normally would be offended by it, but in light of what they’re dealing with, it fits the setting. I was, however, unhappy with the characters “at home” continuing with a lot of that language. I hope it falls off to what’s normal for them in the future books. Still, it wasn’t enough to make me drop a star.I now love Jean Lafitte and, if you read this I know you will too. The characters are genuine and the mystery of the brooches continues, although there are a few new revelations (hint). As always, Ms. Lowry-Logan’s research is extensive and accurate. I would encourage the reader to start at the beginning of the series if possible. The characters grow in number and you get to know them better with each volume. If you like time-travel and romance with a historical background, I believe you’ll enjoy this series.

Another amazing story
As I have said in all my reviews, this is absolutely a story to read...but start at the beginning with the Ruby Brooch. Now, about this book. One this that truly sets Lowry Logan apart from so many other authors is that there is not a set formula for her books. You don't know what you are going to get each time you open the cover, but you can be pretty darn sure it will be better than great. The Topaz Brooch is a darker, more gritty story in many ways. I glanced through the other reviews and noticed many people upset at the amount and description level of the sex in this book. I disagree. I feel like for these characters we wouldn't believe a sweet, kiss you and then dissappear into the bedroom type of scene. We lived with Penny through her traumas, the ugliness and rawness of it all. We need to live with her through the rawness of putting her life back together. Many times life isn't pretty and putting it back together after trauma can be even more graphic. I don't think this story would ha e been believable otherwise. But that is just my opinion. Read it and form your own. Just remember if you are new to the series START WITH THE RUBY BROOCH!

Another truly outstanding book in this series
I’ve read the first 10 books in this series over a three week period. I’m glad that I came to this book series late so I could serial read them. There are so many different characters to keep track of that it really helps to read the series in short order! I truly thank the author for proving such fantastic entertainment, while avoiding predictable outcomes (with the exception of happy endings). I thoroughly enjoyed the plot(s) of this book, and the characters, particularly Penny ( another strong and smart female protagonist). The warning in the front of this book should be heeded that it is much more graphic and raw than the other books, particularly the sex scenes. I’m not sure why the author chose to to do so, but I enjoyed the change. Yet, I’m glad that all the books aren’t written this way. This book is highly recommended, and I can’t wait to start book 11!

Don't let O'Grady become the president!
I love these books i'm just coming to the end of The Topaz Brooch and loving it but I think Rick O'Grady is so vulgar and ignorant that I can't believe you are thinking of making him president of MacKlenna Corporation he strikes me as being unstable and a bully! The earlier books have all had a bit of passion and sex which is fitting to the love stories and the times but I find him disgusting! J L isn't much better the previous book when she was having the baby I literally flicked more pages than I read I have to say I enjoyed the pre O'Grady books a lot more.

Compelling
The historical elements around the romance work well and now getting in to mythology works too. The sex is steamy

Fantastic book loved it.
Very descriptive you brought the characters to life. Loved the plots twists and turns bringing in new elements all the time. Wish I could find a broach and go on an adventure though a less dangerous one to say Eilean Donan castle on West coast of Scotland 1756 springs to mind. Highly recommend
