Earthy Essence
Imagine walking in a dark forest with sunlight breaking through and heating up the rich soil. That is what Galbanum smells like to me. This is my 5th time buying it from Greenwood Essential. I dont even want to try it from else where because I just love the green earthy smell. I mix it with witch hazel and or alcohol and spray it on everything. I also mixed it with jojoba oil and use it on my joints. I am sure it would mix well with sage or cedarwood.

Powerful aroma with intriguing history, great in a diffuser
Galbanum has a strong woody aroma although it originates from a species of Ferula, a family of giant fennels. It is used in perfumes, cosmetics and foods. As a massage oil I like to blend it in a carrier oil with sandalwood or vetiver if I want to create a masculine aroma. If I want to create a lighter aroma I blend it with citrus oils or flowery aromas. If you are new to aromatherapy always use it with a carrier oil, there is good safety information on line, as the bottle and box are too small to carry this vitally important information. I also love using it in my diffuser, I can see why it has been used since ancient times in religious ceremonies and as in ingredient in holy incense. It creates such a wonderful mysterious atmosphere.Greenwood Essential have produced this oil in a glass bottle which I love with a tightly closing plastic top. Unfortunately this top is not a child safety cap so it is important to make sure that it is kept out of reach and out of sight of children. The 5 ml bottle is currently priced at £ 9.99 so a reasonable price enabling one to try it out if you are unfamiliar with it. The oil I received was packed in March 2021 with an expiry date of Feb 2024. I had very fast delivery.

Earthy with a Middle Eastern tones
I love this oil..I'd never heard of it before. It's a very earthy note with a sweet floral note at the same time. It is derived from a resin. I have never smelt anything like it before & can't compare it to anything but if you like Vetivert, then you'd probably like it. It does have a middle Eastern note to it which I'm familiar with as of my country of birth. Some benefits:ArthritisGalbanum may have an effect on arthritis pain. In 2016, a randomized, controlled clinical trial compared the efficacy of galbanum oil with diclofenac gel. Diclofenac is an over-the-counter (OTC) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat arthritis joint pain. The trial was small, with only 32 participants. All had chronic knee pain. They were divided into two equal groups, but the researchers didn’t include a placebo group. Topical treatments were given three times a day for 1 month. The groups’ results regarding pain, stiffness, and physical function over a 2-month follow-up period were comparable to the results from diclofenac gel. The study’s authors wrote that due to the lesser side effects of galbanum, it may be a better choice than diclofenac, at least in the short term. Larger studies with placebo groups are needed to confirm this finding.Skin infectionsResearch suggests that galbanum, rosemary, and fennel oils may be helpful in treating infectious diseases like methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA).Of the three oils, galbanum was shown to have the best antimicrobial activity. The 2010 study was supported by a pharmaceutical company. The pinene found in galbanum is a common monoterpenoid emitted from several aromatic plants, including forest trees, and is known for its growth-inhibitory activity. As expected from this brand (I've tried many of their oils & essential oils), this is very authentic & high quality & 100% pure. Essential oils are not regulated, so anyone can claim they're 100% natural & pure but be synthetic or partially natural. This is top of the range quality as far as I'm aware. You can use essential oils to bath, aromatherapy diffuser, unscented washing up liquid, as a spray (I add polysorbate 20 so the oil mixes with water), skincare (be careful though, if you put too much or use ones that's not suitable for skin, you can get an allergic reaction). Some people even add them to bucket water & mop the floor! You'll have a beautiful scent throughout the house BUT obviously I don't use expensive ones for this purpose. Or even on a cotton handkerchief & sniff throughout the day to get its benefits! Never use essential oils undiluted on the skin. Mix with carrier oils such as coconut, almond, jojoba etc or cream or lotion.I don't advise heating them under candle or any other way as the heat kills their properties. Unless you just want the scent! Please note: essential oils are not for consumption or to put in food, unless they're labelled: FOOD GRADE. Otherwise dangerous & toxic to ingest them. They're not meant to be taken internally. Some interesting facts....Aka Ferula galbanifluaAn enigmatic and complex aroma, Galbanum is a bit of an odd ball as far as oils go. It is derived from a resin, which is not, as one might have thought, extracted from a tree, but rather from an herbaceous plant of the Carrot family that is native to Iraq and Iran. The whole plant exudes a milky substance, which hardens upon exposure to air. This resin has been used as incense and medicine since biblical times. The aroma of the essential oil is somewhat more refined than that of the resin from which it is distilled. While Frankincense was only used for sacred occasions, Galbanum and Myrrh could be burnt for domestic purposes as well. It was traditionally burnt as incense at spring equinox.TraditionalIn aromatherapy skin care, Galbanum is helpful for oily skin and acne and is recommended as a tonic for mature skin and scar tissues. It is a deeply 'psychological' oil that may help delve into psychological sore spots in order to face old debris and clear energy blockages or traumas from the past.MagicalGalbanum can be used for purification and protection. It has quite a vehement energy and may be useful for banishing negative energies in exorcism rituals. It may be used for shamanic journeys to the Underworld and can be useful at times when the soul is in a process of transformation and change. Galbanum can aid contemplation of the fact that every goal is a new beginning. In ancient Egypt it was used as an ingredient of embalming lotions.ScentA complex, multi-layered and long lasting scent, green, dark and mysterious. Blends well with Elemi, Hyacinth, Lavender, Bergamot, Narcissus, Violet and Geranium.

I use as a painkiller for RSI
I did some research on this and some trials show that this is just as effective as using gel NSIADS, and as effective as diclofenac.I was fascinated by this, so makes it with a carrier oil and gently massage into my hand where I suffer from RSI. I was absolutely astonished to find that on me, it worked!Enthused and excited I mixed some up for my friend for her son who damaged the ligaments in his foot playing football. It didn't make any difference on him but then he has got a serious and very painful injury. This has been used for hundreds years as a anti-inflammatory, and I think it's definitely worth a try as it's much safer than taking ibuprofen type gels or tablets.Never use neat. Always mix with a carrier oil. Even vegetable oil will do.

Greenwood Essential produce consistently high quality products at reasonable prices and in such variety as is difficult to find elsewhere. Each aromatherapy bottle comes sealed with a plastic bung that is easily removed and replaced by a plastic European dropper or a glass pipette, depending on the product.Galbanum has a strong mixed scent of mint and grass. It is a resin that can be used as an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and expectorant among others. I find it a little expensive, however it is in line with similar products price-wise and this product is probably better quality than others of its kind.
