A great look at the life of the 46th president of America
Very interesting, well written and full of detail. The author has obviously spent a lot of time looking at every aspect of Joe Biden's life. I would recommend that everyone reads this as it is important to understand who will be the next leader of the free world.

Short overview of the 46th President of USA
At the time of writing this review, Joe Biden is US President-Elect and will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, on January 20th following the most important, divisive, and insane election in American history. An election that I’m sure psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, politicists and historians will pour over for decades, and that’s without taking into consideration epidemiologists, economists, geoscientists, environmentalists, criminologists and sociopath hunters. The unpredictable roller-coaster ride of the 2020 election and the unusual circumstances surrounding it seems to typify the life of Joe Biden himself – a life of heart-breaking tragedy and major political success. He was often described by his peers as the luckiest person they knew and the unluckiest. Evan Osnos, a staff writer with the New Yorker, has written a brief insight into the political developments and events that shaped Biden’s political career. A career that has endured unimaginable family loss with the death of his first wife and two children, that required deep soul searching but always reaffirmed his devotion to public service. A working-class man with big dreams – the true American dream.Joe Biden’s approach of working with colleagues and opponents to achieve compromised agreement has led him to be recognised as a politician with strong bipartisan acceptability. Probably the main reason Obama selected him as his vice president, and a role he accepted with intense loyalty to Obama and was returned with the knowledge Biden had capabilities he himself lacked.I was fascinated in this US election and picked up information from various sources over years on Joe Biden, Barak Obama and Donald Trump. There is nothing new in this book, but it does provide a synopsis on the highlights that help paint the picture of a man of faith, perseverance, empathy, experience, mistakes, gaffs and loyalty. To have started the election campaign almost down and out in the primaries to achieving the democrat's nominee for president to winning the presidency surely shows the rocky path he travels and the support he has gained along the way, including from many of his own party opponents. The book also considers the America that Biden will inherit with a crisis of a deadly pandemic left largely unaddressed at a federal level, a racial injustice crisis that has formed Black Lives Matter initiatives throughout the world, an economic meltdown, a climate crisis, a foreign policy in complete disarray and almost unbelievably the world’s most recognised democracy teetering on the edge of collapse into autocracy. I hope history judges Joe Biden as the right man, in the right place at the right time.Joe Biden: American Dreamer is a look at the political dreams of Biden himself and delivered in a concise book that is cleverly observed and pieced together through conversations Osnos had with many of Biden’s friends and acquaintances. I would recommend this book for a quick overview of the Joe Biden – a man asked to serve his country during one of their most difficult periods in history.

Hopeful
Mr Biden seems to be the embodiment of hope in a world of politics that has gone quite wild and not just in the USA but in the UK too. He seems sane and sensible and a positive and compassionate person and above all honest.

Well written & compact
A short, well written & compact insight into the career of the current President. Would recommend.

Less detail than hoped for
I was looking for a detailed guide to election cheating and manipulating media to conceal gross corruption, but instead there were a lot of platitudes. The bit on how many of his extended family have slept with other members of his extended family was good, so three stars.

Very thoughtful and objective.
I instinctively like Biden. What a contrast to the Monster he is battling for the soul of America. This book pulls no punches. Joe has been through the mill big time, and his faults are there to see. And what a monumental job he will face to effectively be “all things to all people” in January 2021.

A Great Read About the Most Informative Events in Joe Biden's Life
This short book could almost have been considered a campaign book, except that it was written by the candidate and came from a sympathetic journalist. Noted reporter Evan Osnos has produced a thought-provoking and deeply intimate account of the points in Biden's life and career that most shaped him. This starts with the tragic car accident that took his first wife's and the life of one of his children. The next two sections cover events in his political career that made him a successful presidential candidate in 2020.As I write this in 2024. let's hope President Biden thinks back on his storied career and realizes that he has nothing left to prove and that it is time for him to go into well-deserved retirement.

Hot Off the Press!
Not knowing whether Biden would win the Presidential election, this is THE LATEST biography of Joseph Biden. The author is a staff writer for the New Yorker and both a National Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize winner. The reader already knows the Job-like storyline of Biden's life: the car crash that killed his first wife and daughter, the death of his oldest son to cancer and the continued struggles of addiction for his son Hunter. This biography reveals so much more about Mr. Biden.Osmos interviewed not only Biden but also scores of his political colleagues, advisors, family members and close friends. This reviewer found the section on Biden's Vice Presidency and his ever evolving relationship with Obama extremely fascinating. What began as Biden serving as an advisor to candidate Obama, became a relationship of deep friendship. loyalty and honest exchange of differences.Biden is often marginalized for his intelligence and skill set. On the contrary: Biden is a political wizard who grasps the depth and breadth of the workings of Congress. His ability to reach across the aisle has enabled him before and during the Obama administration to negotiate the passage of groundbreaking legislation including Obamacare.Biden is also highly proficient in international diplomacy. During both his many foreign fact finding missions in his fifty years in the Senate, as well as negotiating sensitive foreign assignments for the Obama administration, Biden met and befriended many world leaders. He did not always agree with these leaders, but Biden was willing to talk, consider options, listen and negotiate. Finally, the reader will learn that Biden is a person who admits his mistakes and learns from them. He is wanting and willing to plot the best course for the poor, middle class, minorities and immigrants. He holds both the hopes of the young and the fears of an ever aging population close to his heart. The author ends with these sentences: "And if he came to the Presidency, he was unlikely to supply much exalted rhetoric that reaches into a nation's soul. But, for a people in mourning, he might offer something like solace, a language of healing." What an endorsement for this book!
