LOVE this waterproof case!
I bought this case for our upcoming trip to Maui. We already have an underwater digital camera with video capabilities, but I really wanted to be sure that our Flip Ultra HD 8g didn't suffer the cruel effects of water. And, I know this to be true, water WILL kill a Flip! My first one went through a full wash cycle. It's now my toddler's toy camera. Our first test was the pool. It worked just fine while being splashed on by an enthusiastic 23 month old as he swam for the first time. The next test was filming his little feet kick underwater. Another success! Since then, we've taken it in the pool several more times as well as to the beach. As per the instructions, it never was closed with any hair, sand, etc on the seal. Nor was it closed when it was still wet. It is a PERFECT fit for our Ultra HD 8g. All of the buttons function properly. Everyone who sees it says it's the coolest thing they've seen. The ONLY design flaw I've found (and it didn't affect this review or rating) is that it doesn't float. But, if you use the wrist strap that's included, you shouldn't have any issues with losing your camera. I think the best advice I'd give is if you don't see any water inside after you've tested it under water, DON'T open it up to check. That just compromises the seal you've made. If you drop it in the sand, or carry it with sandy hands, wash the case before you open it to take the camera out. Anything you can do to keep debris off the seal will make your experience with this case as positive as ours. The price on Amazon was the best I could find. Plus, with Amazon's return policy, I was comfortable making the purchase online. Overall, I'd give this product a label as "one of my favorites!"

Fantastic Underwater case for Flip Ultra!
I purchased this case along with the Flip Ultra HD camera about a month ago in order to use it on vacation in the Caribbean. Both the camera and the case were easy to use... I read another user's review that said that the wrist strap for the camera wouldn't fit in the underwater case, so I didn't even both attaching it. The camera fits perfectly into the case, and the case seals tightly and easily. All of the buttons on the case operate the camera with ease as if there was no barrier in between. My boyfriend and I used the camera underwater on several snorkeling adventures around Mexico, Honduras and Belize, and it worked great!! The images are all clear and the sound was incredible. Playing the videos back was like watching a show on the Discovery Channel (aside from our amateur videography skills!) , with the clear images, extreme detail, vivid colors and subtle underwater sounds of the water splashing and fish swimming by. We also were happy to keep the camera in the case during the whole trip (with the exception of taking it out to charge it) so that we could also use it by the pool, on kayaks and speed boats, and not worry about rainy weather. There were no issues with the camera or the case, no leaks at all, and we didn't feel like we were being "extra careful" handling it. A great buy and we'll use it in the future!

Flip Camera Case is Waterproof!!
I bought this camera case for my trip to Mexico with my family. After readinga couple of reviews I was a little unsure as some people had water damage to their cameras. Well I woul like to say this camera case worked EXCELLENT!! I never had any problems at all with water penetration and I used in pool and in the ocean with flawless video. My 4 year old daughter used it more than I did. The only draw back was that the microphone is muffled with the case on and there for volume on play back suffers a little. I am sure with a little editing that could be fixed. Great camera and great case.

Great case! Perfect for capturing video safely at beach & pool
Two days before leaving on a Caribbean cruise I was surfing around on Amazon and discovered this case. I quickly read all the reviews and decided it was a must have. My family and I would be spending most of our time in/around the pool, at various beaches, on water slides and snorkling (no scuba) so having a waterproof and sand-proof case was important. From a purchasing standpoint I called around to local retailers but no one stocked this item so I decided to order from Amazon and pay for 2-day shipping with Saturday delivery. To my suprise I received the item the next day so thanks to Amazon for gettingt it out so quickly! As for the case - I was already familiar with how to use & care for underwater housings but I felt the included instructions were pretty brief. As noted one spec of sand or a single piece of hair can prevent the case from sealing and destroy your Flip - and that would suck! Provided you take your time and ensure the seal and gasket is perfectly clean you should not have any problems. Others suggested that when you first get your case you should put a piece of tissue paper inside and try submerging in a sink, bathtub, etc to make sure you have no leaks from a manufacturing defect. Thats a great idea since just a few drops of water is enough to ruin your camera. The case itself seems well constructed and as other reviewers have noted you do have to remove the original strap from your Flip to get the camera to fit inside. This case comes with another locking wrist strap which worked fine even while swimming and going down water slides so no concerns there. I personally kept the Flip in the waterproof cases the entire vacation except for charging the batteries and downloading videos. When recording on land the sound in a little muffled/softer while in the case so if sound quality is that important you might want to take it out. Its also much bulkier in the case so its not going to fit as easily in your pocket. Aside from being waterproof it was comforting to know that my Flip was protected from sand as well while at the beach. While snorkeling I was very impressed with the quality of the picture and sound. As with any camera, photographing with the light/sun from behind you will illuminate your subjects so it pays to swim around to get the best shot - especially while underwater. While submerged the lens is crystal clear. When you come out of the water you may have a few drops on the lens that will show up in your videos on land so just wipe of blow them off to keep it from distorting the picture. I had the Flip down to about 8 feet and did not have any issues with the buttons getting depressed as other reviews had reported. I'm not sure I'd take it scuba diving past 25-30' despite being rated for that depth but others have indicated it worked just fine. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this case and wish I had bought one sooner. If your family or friends like water oriented activities this is a great way to safely capture those memories.

Good "surface" protection for your flip. Not for scuba diving.
I took this recently on a scuba-vacation to Cozumel. It works great for snorkeling and anything above the waterline, but not compatible with scuba diving. I think the manual says it can go up to 30ft deep or so, but that was not my experience. I decided to push the limits a little and take it on a 45-50ft dive. While waiting to make our descent I took some waterline level video that turned out great. On our first dive I waited too long to hit "record" (probably about 15ft depth) and by that time the underwater pressure at pushed in all the buttons and I was unable to get it to start recording. I could operate the "power" button on the side but that was it. So...thinking I had learned my lesson I just left it on "record" from the beginning on our next dive. We immediately descended approximately 40ft and I realized the pressure had activated the "zoom in" button somewhere along the way. Sure enough it was stuck in. So, I got alot of video and it held up without any leaks...but just not made for any depth beyond 5-10 ft I don't think. Hope this helps.

Works great on my 3rd Gen Flip UltraHD
The construction and design of this case is great. It's not as bulky as I was expecting it to be, which is a good thing. Tested the case in a bucket of water before I actually put it to use. First time using it was at a water park and it did amazingly well. I also thought that since the Flip would be sealed inside, little to no sound would be heard. To my surprise it picked up sounds just fine. I was skeptical about ordering this case at first since I read so many reviews about this not being made for the 3rd gen. They are correct and the 3rd gen will be slightly smaller than the case. I corrected it by using the cardboard fix that everyone seems to do. I just took a piece of cardboard from the shipping box, placed one in front of the Flip and one on the side (the USB side). Now it fits great and works perfectly. I don't have to wiggle it or to do anything else. All the buttons work fine with no problems above or below water. Can't wait to take it on my cruise next week for some snorkeling vids!

Great product - the trick is to use it.
This underwater housing worked well and was easy to use. The images were clear and while the audio was a bit muffled out of the water, it was still clear enough to understand. While it is easy to do so, I would not expect to take the housing on and off the camera as you get in and out of the water every couple of minutes. You would likely want to dry off at least your hands before opening up the housing. As with any camera related device, It is important to grab it out of your bag and use it. It tended to sit in our bag during swim times more than I would have preferred. Think as if you would put it on for a 30 minute ocean session and take it off when back in your lounger... - The price is right to allow for some great footage in the pool, on the mountain or at the beach.

Scuba divers, listen up
I bought this in hopes of using it for an upcoming scuba dive trip with mixed results. As others have said, make sure the gasket is clean and free of hair and sand before shutting the case. This worked great at shallow depths with very clear videos and even decent sound. However, at somewhere around 10 feet deep and deeper, the water pressure was too great and the camera would either zoom by itself or all of the buttons would just not work except the power button. This is probably because they were all being pressed at the same time by the water pressure. That being said, inspired by another reviewer, I was able to take it down to depths of 45 feet or so with no leaks, but if it wasn't going to work at 10 feet, it sure didn't at 45 feet. I'm returning it and getting another in the hopes that it will work at least 30 feet deep for me as it did for him. If you are just using it to snorkel or play in the pool, this case is amazing and a lot of fun. Scuba divers, you won't ruin your camera but you might not get any video either.

Works great, allowing you to take your flip into the water. No leaks, easy to open. No complaints. And not expensive!
