The Dragon's Blade: The Reborn King

Second Chance
I had a hard time getting into this book. The main character Darnuir, is a dragon prince and he starts off as a fairly nasty character. He is arrogant, self-centered, and is dismissive of humans and fairies. He doesn’t care how many humans suffer or die, he is focused on the superior dragons. Until he suffers a mortal wound and is magically reborn. It is when he is reborn that the story finally clicked with me. He is raised by humans, with only the wizard who saved him and the human who raises him knowing the truth. Even Darnuir thinks he is human. But when he turns 20 the wizard returns and Darnuir’s birthright, a magical sword called the Dragon’s Blade, comes flying to his hand, that everyone (including Darnuir) suddenly realizes Darnuir is the dragon king.In Darnuir’s first life, he was raised as a prince in a large city, given every opportunity and turned out as a nasty character; he dies at age 80. In his second life, growing up in a cold, remote location, raised by caring people, and being trained as a hunter, he turned into a much different person in his second life. This is where I really started to enjoy the story.I enjoyed the wealth of history Mr. Miller provided, going back thousands of years to explain how they came to be in current time and how the relationships between the races evolved. In current times dragons have lost the ability to shift to dragons but have kept superior strength, endurance, eyesight and an enhanced sense of smell. There are some twists and turns, some hints of changes to come, but it turns out this is the first book in a series so I will have to wait to find out where this story leads.I received this book for free from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The reborn king is an excellent start to a fantasy series
The reborn king is an excellent start to a fantasy series. The main character Darnuir is a dragon prince. His people are being slaughtered in a war with demons and specters. Darnuir is arrogant and brash, but he loves his people and wants the war to end. Unfortunately he will do anything to see this happen, and doesn't care for the other races of fairies and humans. When Darnuir is fatally injured in an attack on his city, his ally, the wizard Brackendon, makes a crucial decision. If Darnuir dies, the magic of the dragon kings dies with him since he has no heir. So Darnuir faces a different death. Brackendon explains it better than I can.“As I say, you are essentially killing the person in the rebirthing process. Time is rewound upon the subject and they are left as a baby. It doesn’t save the person who it is used upon. If someone you loved was dying, the rebirth spell would still take them from you. While that person would grow up from a babe once more, their surroundings, their personality, the experiences that shape them would be different. They would never be truly the same."So Darnuir is raised by humans with no memory of his former self. This is such an interesting idea and it was executed so well. When Darnuir comes of age twenty years later, he has no memory of his former self, but the men and dragons do. Twenty years is not a long time for a dragon, or a human either. He struggles with the expectations placed on him by his people, and dealing with the consequences of actions that he has no memory of making. The secondary characters are well developed and have distinct personalities. Even the villains have great characterization. This is traditional high fantasy, with fairies and dragons, trolls and wizards. It's a lot of fun and I can't wait to see where the series goes.

The story is about a reborn Prince on a quest and the battle from time immemorial of good versus evil
There is a lot happening in this different and unusual dragon story by Michael R. Miller. The story is about a reborn Prince on a quest and the battle from time immemorial of good versus evil. With a lot of action, it is fast paced, with magic, intrigue, history and mythology. It also has a very good plot and storyline. The Author has shown good imagination and creativity in this new world for the reader to explore. The world that the Author has created is well thought out and the characters are well developed. There are good vivid descriptions of the many characters with all their flaws, traits and foibles. The book is well written, with many twists and turns and the description of places and events is actually visual, thus the reader is captured and immersed in the drama from the beginning of the book until the end. I found it to be an interesting and captivating book to read.

A good start!
I enjoyed this book immensely, but just a few issues. To start sometimes during a conversation it will seem your listening to the thoughts of one person, but then it will switch to the thoughts of another character. I also don't know how to feel about the relationship or not relationship between Cassandra and Darnuir. It just seemed too quick and not really worked into the story the correct way or the right time. I do like Darnuir alot and his character and the difficulties he is facing. Overall I did like the book, the storyline and the characters, just needed a little tweaking. Definitely worth the read. Also not your usual dragon read!

A great fantasy story
4.5This is the first book I have read by the author Michael R. Miller. This is a very fast pace story. The author did a great job with the development of the characters during the story. I believe this book could have been split into two different books. I didn't realize that this book was part of a trilogy until near the end. The flow of the story is pretty smooth. There are just a few times where there was some dialog where it came across as ramble. It made it hard to keep focus in the story because it seem irrelevant/unnecessary/ or over covered. Continue to write. I will be checking out book 2 and 3 in this series.

Fantastic!
Hello all! How is everyone? Welcome to my review of The Dragons Blade: The Reborn King by Michael R Miller, arguably one the most perfectly executed fantasy novels that I have read recently. Why do I think this? Well read on....The Reborn King tells the story of Darnuir, the Prince of Dragons, who when we first meet him is not the nicest character ever, you may wander why the Dragons are all human shaped as well...This is due to a great transformation that took place (more on that later). The world they inhabit, Tenalp, is under siege from a demon army, the good guys (Human, Dragon and Fairy are not doing to well in this war). In a act of supreme heroism Darnuir is is left mortally wounded, he is saved through a dangerous rebirthing spell and left as a baby in human hands. The stage is set for one of the best fantasy stories ever told (in my opinion). One of the major aspects of this book I must congratulate Michael on is the real lack of a info dump. This is a ever present factor in many (but not all) fantasy novels and in The Reborn King, Michael weaves an excellent story without dumping a back story on the reader, thank you!!!! This enables the story to focus on Darnuir and several other characters on what they are doing, this makes the story all the better and very compelling as well. This is a character driven story, the plot is sometimes, I personally found this very enjoyable and it enhanced my understanding of the world of Tenalp. This is a novel I will very happily give 10/10 too, it has everything, a compelling plot, well thought out characters, an intriguing world, and when we get to it a mysterious back story. This makes the story all the more compelling and the fact this is part of planned series makes me all the more excited for this series.

Fun fantasy
The Reborn King is the first of the "Dragon's Blade" trilogy by fantasy writer Michael R. Miller. In the realm of Tenalp, the three races of humans, dragons (who look human), and fairies (most of whom also look human), are under attack by Rectar and his demonic forces. Rectar has an uneasy alliance with the wizard Castallan, who has usurped and destroyed most of the wizarding world. If this all sounds a bit Tolkien to you, I'm afraid you're very, very right. Miller's spin on the whole "dark lord wages war on magical world" saga is that the arrogant King of Dragons, Darnuir, is blasted back to infancy and is forced to grow up again, with no memories of his former life, while the plot develops without him (I hope this isn't a spoiler, it's kind of right there in the title). It's an interesting twist on the familiar Hero's Journey. The book is readable, and fast-paced. But there is a degree of predictability (and a regrettable number of auto-correct errors) that just takes off that fifth star for me. The characters who are obviously lost royalty turn out to be lost royalty, the character that's blatantly a traitor is indeed a traitor, and the love interest that's inevitably going to be fridged, is given a textbook fridging. The book gets a lot more interesting when exploring the divisions between the evil forces, and the treatment of magic is also fairly novel. A character shows up towards the end who is also a lot more fun than the characters with whom you've spent most of the book.If some of the above looks a bit harsh, I should stress that I did enjoy it, and will be reading the next two. I recently bought the complete trilogy (I'm not a very organised person), so I'll get to the other two in due course!

No Real Dragons.
The Bastion and the land of Aurisha have falling, over run by Spectors and Daemons alike, Castallan has betrayed King Arkus. While chaos is reigning, Darnuir a Dragon Prince is a prick and pig headed, is full of himself and while in the tower protecting the Princess is cut down by Daemons, The Wizard Brackendon finds him dying, to save him must act quickly with a soul rebirting spell, while “Castallan rules the Bastion, Darnuir is only a infant again, 20 years on he must bring the Dragons back into the fold, For he’s the last member of the royal bloodline and only he can wield the Dragon’s Blade, fantastic battles, great characters, the Narrator for this audio, Dave Cruse gives an amazing preformence, if your looking for something epic, look no further than the Dragon Blade Trilogy, Highly recommended...😁💙

Really good heroic fantasy in the making.
I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. This tale has Dragons, Fairies, Trolls, humans and Demons, though, not in the sense of the monsters that some might perceive them to be. They are all in humanoid form but show certain characteristics unique to their race. There is magic, though it is mainly based around The Dragon's Blade and the staffs cut from the branches or the heart of magical trees. The main character, Darnuir, is Dragon-kin but is raised as a human after being mortally wounded while trying to save the life of the human King's daughter. He is raised and guided by, Cosmo, a human who the Archmage, Brakendon chooses for the task.Darnuir's early years in his new guise pass by quickly in a well written few chapters that skip past childhood and adolescence and get straight to the important point of the whole tale, The Dragon's Blade. He is plagued by doubts and headaches, maybe all due only to bad dreams, but the cause of these soon becomes clear to be the work of the blade that has returned to it's King.I cannot heap enough praise on this first book of a planned trilogy and I look forward to reading the second book very soon.

A solid fantasy novel
The thing that I love most about this novel is that you can really tell that the author has built up an entire world, full of detail and history. With that alone, you've already got a solid fantasy novel offering all the escapism and scope for imagination that you could want. There are hints at things that have happened in the past and that make me look forward to learning more about in the sequels. There characters are fresh and dynamic. In particular, their relationships with one another are interesting and more intricate than one might expect from a fantasy novel. All in, this is a great fantasy book for anyone who is a fan of the genre and some good characterisation.
