Q: Is the Drying mat machine washable?

Yes it is washable. However I would not advise buying the drying rack as it develops black mold rather quickly. I did not use the mat because it exacerbated the mold problem. I have discarded both the rack and the mat. Such a shame as it was a very nicely designed rack in terms of function.

Q: It appears to me that once you attach the utensil box that the drainer is no longer foldable, correct?

Actually the utensil box is NOT attached to the frame of the drying rack. Two small l-shaped brackets rest over the frame, and it actually "hangs"across the edge of the upper part of the rack (see photo). You can remove the utensil box seperately from the rack and fold the rack if you wish.

Q: Do have to put its together

No, just fold out. You will need to set the utensil holder on the side. But consider a plastic or metal version. This one molds something terrible.
