Thank you** A: Yes it is. I bought the watch to use predominantly for counting swim lengths at the pool. By pressing the Mode button and selecting the Chrono option I press it on the completeion of each length. But it is actually designed I think specifically for counting laps. **Q: Can i set it for 1.5 minutes for example so it will beep and i know whether i have made the time on my swimming?** A: I am not sure..but you could just set the alarm for 1.5 mins on from the current time. This is an excellent watch and I am still on the original battery a few years on..i use the lap counter for swimming lengths **Q: Does this watch chime on the hour? Beep?** A: U can set it to chime or turn the chime off! **Q: Is it as simple as pressing a button at start of lap then stopping at end to gauge time?** A: You can do that on the ‘chrono’ setting. To start using it and set up functions go to the TIMEX website for instructions on your type of watch which u can download as well. The only thing that could have been better is the light which is quite dim (could have been more bright and easier to see in the darkness).
