Mrs. Pollifax is a book to read!
It has been at least a decade since l lost almost all my books of which Dorothy Gilman's were among them. I had almost all of the Mrs. Pollifax books written. Having just finished reading this book I had the great satisfaction of having the same reaction when I finished reading it as the last time I read it. A feeling of satisfaction that this book still held me on the edge of my recliner. I have read the Mrs. Pollifax at least twice & quite a few more times in my life. For me having the pleasure of reading a book twice tells me it's a keeper. Any book that cannot pass this test will be given away. It is still one of the books that I will take a great pleasure to read & reread many times to come.

Still Amazing
I'm a big fan of Mrs. Pollifax and continue to be more so as I get older myself. She's full of surprises and ingenuity. The story is good and not predictable. I like that she isn't glib or a superhero by movie standards. She has good sense, imagination and credibility. She's believable as whoever she is supposed to be while on the job. I love that she still raises begonias for her gardening club and wears silly hats. This story shows how someone you'd never suspect could have an international influence with world changing consequences. She reminds me a bit of Miss Marple. I own all the hardbound books and am currently downloading them onto my Kindle to reread about my old friend Mrs. Pollifax and her adventures as a spy.

One of the things that I like Mrs. Pollifax is that she evaluates each person ...
One of the things that I like Mrs. Pollifax is that she evaluates each person on his or her "self," not by ethnicity or religion. It wasn't all that common when the books were written. In this fourth book of the series, Mrs. Pollifax continues to grow and practice activities (such as karate) that will help her with her secret CIA agent jobs. This time she's off to Switzerland to try and find some missing plutonium that is probably going to make a very nasty bomb. She does her job with the ingenuity and friends that she makes. The Mrs. Pollifax series is like popcorn. It's fluffy and comfortably filling. And like popcorn, it is oh so easy to pick up the next piece. I have already started the next book in the series.I wish I could give half stars as this is a firm 4.5 stars. I rounded up because I like the series and Mrs. Pollifax makes me smile.

Go Grandma and get 'em
Go GrandmaI love the Mrs. Pollifax series. I read the books many years ago and now I am building my Kindle library.Picture this, an older woman who is now a widow, has raised her kids, volunteers for everything but wants more. When she was younger she had always wanted to be a spy. Well, she has the time now and she goes to the CIA and volunteers her help. She is asked to do a job but it was a case of mistaken identity because Carstairs thought she was someone else.Trouble seems to find her time and time again. The great thing is she always gets herself and others that are attracted to her out of trouble. When these books were written there were no cell phones, fax machines, and computers but the stories always gets the point across and are entertaining! If not this one try one of the others.

I identify with Mrs. Pollifax
I have read two books in this series, and I have to say I love Mrs. Pollifax, maybe because I identify with her a little bit... She is spunky and adventurous, and meets so many interesting people during her adventures! The plot is just convoluted enough that the reader (as well as Mrs. Pollifax) doesn't figure it out right away, there are just enough weird characters to seem somewhat realistic (well.. maybe not), and the locale is interesting enough that the descriptions make for an enjoyable read. These books are great for commuting to work by train or bus, or for reading at the beach or by a fireplace.

This series is the best.
Mrs. Polifax is retired and bored. Through a series of mis-directions she ends up on the CIA payroll. She has many adventures and meets the most interesting people. Sometimes age and wisdom outweigh youth and strength. You feel like you are on the adventure with her. Just love the book. I highly recommend it to all readers.

Fun spy cozy, easy read, great for a light afternoon's entertainment
I recently discovered these books, which I assume are perhaps some of the first cozies ever written. They're enjoyable, light reading, with a bit of interesting background information. Mrs. Pollifax is brave, unflappable, and reminds me of my grandmother. She manages to save the day through her kindness, keen wit, and her deceptive un-spylike demeanor. I'll definitely buy more of these for when I want a quiet afternoon of enjoyable, non-angsty reading.

Five stars for the author. Needs a proofreader.
This review is for the Kindle version.I'm reading through this wonderful series, and was missing a paper version of this particular book, and was happy to find it in Kindle. Only it appears this was scanned in and not carefully read, in that it contains numerous errors consistent with incorrect character recognition: missing punctuation and similar looking words. (Things like a "chaise TONGUE" instead of a "chaise LOUNGE" and a reference to a "desk WHORE Hafez had been sitting") Some I was able to figure out. Others I still don't understand. Especially: "Really, I can't Gabrielle a nun?"I was very happy to find this series available in ebooks, but wasn't there at least a good intern available to go through them? I'm now hesitant to buy more.

A lost friend found.
I've had the collection of the Mrs. Pollifax novels in softcover for many years and have slowly been trying to find them in hardcover. I'm very pleased to have found not only this book, but in such excellent condition. Thank you very much.

Diese Bücher passen in jeden Koffer, sind spannend zu lesen, ich leihe sie an Freunde aus, die gerade Englisch lernen, sie lassen sich auch mit nicht so grossem englischem Kenntnissen gut lesen.
