I gifted this to my 5 year old daughter and she loves it. We play chess evert so often but she imagines with the set everyday. My 3 year old son is also loving this and plays for hours to separate and sorts by color or shapes. Overall it has been a great item for our family. Just a few notes, the pieces are small and they blend with carpet or rugs so be mindful so you don’t step on them. Also if you have children that are still at the stage of putting things in their mouth, I wouldn’t recommend this yet. Perfect for traveling because it is light. Chess pieces are magnetized so if you are traveling, this is a good item. Craftsmen-ship is par and it is good for kids. I wouldn’t recommend it as a gift to impress an adult.

Nice set, sturdy pieces. It comes with two cloth pouches to put the chess pieces in. The magnetic board and pieces help keep the pieces in place. Great product!

CHILD SAFETY comments listed below.First, the Pros of this product. All pieces were accounted for. Box unopened and not damaged. Magnets for chess pieces work as described. Chess pieces are the appropriate sizes for this board.Critical feedback, the checker pieces were miss-cut. Some were thick and others were thin like wafers. One was so thin that it split in half in the bag and I had to use some Gorilla wood glue to put it back together.Other quality control concerns. The wood trim for the backgammon portion were not set correctly. They were glue heavy (oozed out) with a 1/8" gap on one side and 3/16" gap on the other side. This was likely done by hand as the variance was too great to assume it was a machine error.The dice are too small and unusable. For the size of the board, I get why they picked this size, but they are too small and a hazard for not only children, but pets too. Just saying!The outside box and inside chess/checker/backgammon board was covered with some type of chemical resin. At first it feels like dust, but if you wipe it, it lifts a brown substance and smells of a cheap lacquer.Design flaw would be with the boards locking clasp. When the board is open, the locking clasp will either be up or down depending on the game being played and when up, it can scratch someone and when down, the board will not sit flush or worse, scratch something nice underneath. This was not well thought out. There are slide locking clasp or even magnetic locks that would have fared better.With that being said, there's some basic upkeep requirements when getting this. I would not just hand it over to a child or anyone for that matter, without checking it first and cleaning it with a damp cloth with mild soap. Let it air dry and re-check for odors and residue.Look, for the price, its a good deal, but safety is always an issue when these sets are usually bought for children.
