I've been burning Winter fires in my Rumsford design fireplace for 44 years. The tall, narrow fireplace design produces amazing heat. I have +/- 65 fires a years burning blazing hot fires with aged split oak. The back half of the original architecturally designed/blacksmith-created grate, disintegrated decades ago, when I chose to continue using the front half, and to place a small grate into the back half of the fireplace box. I found that the new grates would complete disintegrate within 2-3 years, from my fire's intense heat.However, I'm just finishing up my second year using the above grate, and miraculously, there is almost no sign of wear!!! They iron they are using must be of the highest quality. That's why I'm giving it 5 stars!
