Fun for kids

I bought this as a classroom gift for my son's teacher. She was thrilled to have it and told me the other teachers have been borrowing it as well! They immediately had a class project to make their own books, which the kids loved. It works well. It was pricey but it seems like it will last a long time.

Quality.

I love this thing and a hardly ever use it. I've had it for a few years now and have never had an issue with it. I have also never completed a single project that I have set out to make with this binder.Operating it is very simple and straight forward. If you've ever used a regular paper punch, it's like that. But way cooler. It's heavy duty, easy to use, and great for craft projects.

40 books in and working perfectly!

I love it when I receive the perfect product to get the job done. I print my coloring books on 67lb bristol vellum and it punches without issue. Of course, I can't punch 20 pages as my paper is thicker and it shouldn't according to its specification. It easily punches multiple sheets of cardstock as well as 140lb watercolor paper. Oh, and punching 8mil covers is not a problem either (I punch 3 at a time with ease) Binding isn't much of a problem either as long as everything is lined up. I read the reviews and took a gamble and it paid off. This is a great little machine!

Good Machine With Some Caveats

This is my first binding machine and I admit I went at it not really knowing what to expect. I had to bind 100, 80 and another 80 books together for a customer and I knew there would be a learning curve. I saw manual machines ranging from $75.00 to 0ver $300.00 and decided to pick in the middle. I didn't want a cheap machine that had a hard time punching pages or felt flimsy, but I was on a budget. This machine was a little under $200.00 and had decent reviews. Now that the job is finished I have learned a lot and decided to write a longer review to maybe help other first time buyers.I printed the jobs on 32lb paper , so a little thicker than the usual 20lb bond. I was able to punch through about 8-10 pages at a time. If I got thicker (say around 15 pages) it could still punch but it was more difficult to punch and ultimately slowed me down. I also found when punching through the pages with the front clear cover, or the back black cover, I punched around 4-6 pages including that cover. If I tried to punch more than that with the plastic, the plastic punch was not as clean. I was able to work quickly and punching through 142 pages took me about 60-90 seconds. For attaching the binding, the rubber roller is sufficient, but you could almost roll them on by hand as quick. I found it best to punch multiple books, and then use the roller with those all at once. I did get better at that after a while. On the thinner books (27 Pages), It only took about 30 seconds to start the spiral coil on and the have the roller zip it to the end, and then cut and crimp the ends.I had one book that used a 1" diameter spiral, and the roller could not handle that thickness. At first I thought I must need a larger diameter spiral, but in the end, I found that the machine just can't do that diameter and I had to do those by hand which was very time consuming. Rolling them by hand took me around 3 minutes per book. The thicker the book, the harder it is to attach the spiral coils through the holes. On the thinner books, the coil glides on quick and easy. On the thicker book the further you move the coil in, the harder it gets to keep it going. I was left wondering if a more expensive machine handles that process better. The last thing I'll mention is hole size. This machine punches 1 5/32 hole. It took me scouring the listing to find that information. I browsed several listings for machines and coils, and that hole size is basically never discussed. The problem is I bought some 1 1/4 diameter coils to see if they would be faster to put on than the 1" coils mentioned above. When they arrived, I found that they were a ticker gage plastic than all of the other coils I had bought, and in fact, were too thick to really make it through the punched holes. I could force them through for the first 3 or four holes, but then the extra drag made it impossible to use them. I returned them and went back to the original coils. It has made me leery when buying larger diameter coils because no one seems to tell me what size hole the coil needs and my experience tells me that can be a concern. If you plan to bind thicker (more pages), books, yo may want to make sure that the coil is still capable of going through a 5/32 hole. Hopefully, this review helps you understand the process and what to look for. All in all, I think this is a good machine and I am pleased with my purchase.

Works great

The machine is great but I do have a few qualms. One is that I had to do several tests to get the letter size holes just right so there wouldn’t be one on the end with half a punched hole. Another thing is that depending on paper weight you can only punch through so many at a time. Which is not that big of a deal to me. I also struggle a bit with cutting the coil down to the right length but that’s really probably a me thing. Overall I still think it’s worth the money.

Solid piece of equipment

This is a solidly built manual punch coil binder. The action to disengage a pin is simple and effective, and the coiler (the only powered bit) is well made.I anticipate getting a lot of use out of this machine.

The best, most useful homeschool item in my home!

Everything about this just works. It's just high quality. And the customer service is FANTASTIC. I lost my cord (completely my fault and like a year after purchase) and they just sent me another, free of charge. I could not be more thrilled with this purchase.

Auto Coil Inserter does not turn on

The 'auto coiler' will not turn on. Could be the fuse. Whatever the reason, it doesn't work out of the box.
