Terrific Juice. Super Dry Pulp. Requires time investment to clean thoroughly after each use. Helpful Customer Service
Read about pros and cons of 4 main juicer types in Chris Carr book and decided on a Twin Gear type because it was the second best at preserving nutrients; I was okay with the trade-off of being more time-consuming to clean than other types. The most-nutritious Norwalk costs thousands, while twin gear machines cost hundreds. Of the latter, I chose the Greenstar Elite based on reading customer reviews.I appear to have received a defective machine. Amazon is shipping a replacement. I will update my review after it arrives and I've used it for a while. On opening the box, it appeared to have been opened, unpacked and repacked, but nothing was missing, and the parts all looked clean and unused, so no problem, I thought. I read all and followed all instructions (I'm the type that always does that, and errs on the side of treating just about everything from clothing to machines with more TLC than specified). I also watched the DVD.I used the juicer for one recipe from the Carr book on the 1st day (ie, I didn't make multiple batches). Cut up carrots, kale, chard and spinach, I did add one small beet cut into 4 pcs. THRILLED with the results. Juice was delicious. The pulp was super-dry. The machine worked beautifully, no issues. Clean up was not quick. I already expected that and am willing to do it for the benefits. Don't want any speck of organic matter left behind in the screen rotting over time. A helpful multi-tip, multi-brush tool comes with machine which makes it easier to get every speck. Cool so far.I'm a decades long family caregiver, now down to one family member to care for at home. Nutrition has become a challenge. I've had a hunch for a while that the minimal eating has more to do with how tiring it is for her to chew, than lack of appetite. I try very hard to serve her things she likes, and she indicates that what I'd been serving her was delicious, but even with me feeding her to conserve energy, she waves most solid foods away after a few bites. I was aware that she'd keep emptying her glass if I kept refilling it, so for some time, I've been relying on 3-4 nutritional supplement drinks per day to ensure she's getting a minimum of calories and nutrients. But I'm not thrilled, reading the ingredients. She GUZZLED the 1st glass of juice, draining it to the bottom with sucking noises. More fresh vegetables consumed in 5 minutes than I'd normally get down her in a week. VICTORY! YAY!Repeat day 2. I'm elated! I'm excited to anticipate perhaps all kinds of health benefits showing up for her in months to come if this continues!Day 3: I decide I'm going to jazz it up a little and prep some watercress, parsley, and a crisp apple to add to the 3 ingredients I'd used for the first 2 uses. It took quite a bit of time to scrub and cut up, to wash and strip herbs and greens to remove all stems. Looking forward to having her juice minutes away, MACHINE DEAD. Tried other appliances in same outlet, work fine. Tried disassembling and reassembling several times. Tried Reverse button. DEAD. The machine gave no indications that it was failing or in distress the first 2 uses. Worked perfectly. I expect a machine that costs hundred of dollars to be capable of being used once a day FOR YEARS, not twice. As I said, I will update review after receiving replacement and using it a while. The first machine is going back.PS Had to wait til noon Eastern time to contact Tribest Customer Service Pacific time. VERY HELPFUL. GOT MY MACHINE WORKING quickly with over the phone instructions. Back to being thrilled! I cancelled the return and replacement process. Fingers crossed that there will be no more issues. Provided machine is reliable and long-lived, I expect to use this more than our Vitamix. Love it!

Great Juicer!!!
I truly love this juicer, because it produces great juice. I have had many juicers over the years. Unlike the other juicers that spins the fruit over blades, the juice from the twin gear masticating juicer, can be stored in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. This is a great advantage when planning your meals. However this juicer is very expensive. The only way I was able to afford it was that is used my points from my American Express card to knock $300.00 off from the price.Juicing is very labor intensive, so when I juice, I usually make a gallon at a time to drink over the course of a few days. The produce must be washed and cut down to the size where it will fit down the feeder chute. Then there is the clean up afterwards which is time consuming and uses a lot of water. There are quite a few parts, nooks and crannies that have to be cleaned. The juicer comes with a few brushes for cleaning, but I would suggest you also go out and purchase your own brushes that may suit your needs better. The juicer also comes with a nice glass measuring cup or pitcher in which to collect your juice, however I would also suggest you use your own bowl to collect this juice which will allow you to pour the juice into a bottle to avoid unintentional spills and waste. The screen that is provided to reduce foam is useless because the mesh is too small. The remedy is that you buy your own screen with a larger mesh, and place it in your own bowl. This proves to be a much better system of collecting the juice and reducing the foam. Of course you will have to develop a system which works best for you through trial and error.Again I love this juicer. Frequently I will buy produce on sale, just to see what the juice will taste like. This juicer makes great pomegranate juice! Cranberry juice is extremely sour so you should mix it with something else like apples. Soft fruits are a bit of a challenge, since the produce backs up on you. Things like soft red apples and ripe pineapples are a bit difficult. You also want to watch it when you use ginger root. Because the machine extracts the liquid content so well, the ginger root juice is very strong and highly concentrated. A little bit goes a very long way. Leafy green vegetables? C’mon do you really drink that stuff? Don’t let the guy on Youtube fool you, the stuff tastes awful. However the machine makes very concentrated juice from any vegetable you put in it, so I suggest you add some kind of fruit to any vegetable juice you are making. There is only one juicer out there on the market which is better than this one, and it costs about $1200.00. If you are thinking about getting this juicer and can’t decide, I would urge you to spend the money, and you will become a juice connoisseur.

An excellent product in every way
An excellent product in every way. A few points right away. Cleaning this unit is simple and takes about 12 minutes from start to finish including drying. This is after juicing many carrots, celery, ginger and kale. Second point is that since preparing the veggies for juicing does not require slicing them into smaller half inch pieces for carrot, celery etc the total time of use may be 5 minutes longer on the cleanup, but 5-8 minutes less on the preparation. It takes 10 minutes to clean up after breakfast or lunch. I am not sure why some reviews state the cleanup time is unreasonable...maybe the expectation is juice and walk away For cleaning, I removed the screen and set it in hot soapy water to soak while I clean the other parts. If I want to walk away from the sink, the screen is still soaking and when I return it is an easy process. I use the dull side of a butter knife to clean the few parts of the screen that need more work. This method is suggested in the user manual. Kale goes in completely un-trimmed...just feed it into the juicer with the stem end first and use the tamper with a little push. Carrots and celery are processed just as easily. The amount of juice that is produced was a surprise...just about all available juice is extracted.Mixing up the veggies, fruit and citrus will ensure good results. Another review suggested juicing a lemon or lime as the last item and I tried that with good results. Also, ginger. The citrus and ginger help to clean the screen and also add great flavor and nutrients. I use only organic produce. Before I had the GSE5000 I would walk through the grocer and not pick up many greens I wanted simply because it was not always effiecient to get kale, spinach, collards, chard, cabbage and many others because of the potential for not using them timely. With the GSE5000, if it is green or otherwise interesting, it is a simple choice to buy the greens and easily juice them while still fresh. The quality of the juice is very good. I am new to juicing and always add either a lime, lemon or ginger to my green juices. Beets and red cabbage are very good for you. Citrus and apples are used only to add flavor. I think that 90% of the juice I make is green and 10% or less will be one piece of fruit and then lime or ginger. The lime and ginger goes a long way. A 2 inch piece of ginger easily adds good flavor to 2-3 quarts of green and red (beet) juice. As FoodBabe states, mix up your greens using all that is available. Do not simply juice kale and spinach over and over and over. Variety is important.I have not yet used the GSE5000 for nuts or grains, though I plan to do so. I have no doubt it will do a great job. And, the 12 year warranty is good. The unit is quiet and has plenty of power, very easy to use. Not too heavy, but not super light either. The carrying grip is well balanced and makes picking and carrying it easy.As others have said, and I agree, if you are thinking about a juicer, even if this is your first, get the GSE5000. You will be happy with your decision.

too hard to clean
great machine but too hard to clean. So many parts to clean and a lot of the plastic parts seem to soak up the juice and stay dirty. the metal parts clean well, they should have made more using metal as that cleans easy.

Superb quality juicer
So, I recently dove into juicing as I had a terrible eczema flare-up that has left me covered head to toe in a painful, anxiety-filling rash. I originally purchased the Omega NC800HDS, which was great, however the auger cracked within a few uses. As there aren't really any other comparable juicers in the price range, I decided to return that unit and splurge a bit more on this one instead. This juicer is amazing. It has an amazingly high yield, especially for leafy greens. The juices I make normally consist of dandelion, broccoli, chard, celery, carrots, kale, spinach, ginger, turmeric, lemons, limes, apples, pears, beet root, parsley, cucumber, and others I cannot quite remember right now. It handles everything beautifully. If I had one complaint, it would be the amount of foam that forms whilst juicing. However, I believe this is dependent on making proper adjustments to the pressure knob while juicing. There's a bit of a learning curve, but you'll learn as you go along. Definitely not a deal breaker, especially because the strainer does its job well.Regarding the time it takes to juice...Depending on how much juice you are making, this can be a very time consuming process. From start to finish, I normally take an hour and a half to make enough juice for 3-4 days. In my eyes, that's not so bad. Bear in mind that I have an abnormally small kitchen, and I am also factoring in washing and prepping all of the vegetables and fruit.Cleaning isn't that bad at all. Everything comes apart easily, and the parts all wash quickly. The screen obviously takes a bit more time, but I have it clean in about 30 seconds. Other reviewers have discussed their techniques for quickly cleaning it.All in all, this is a very high quality, well built and well designed juicer. The machine is beautiful. The gears are truly a work of great engineering. I genuinely love this thing. If you're thinking about making the purchase, I can tell you it will be a fantastic investment.

THE Best Juicer on the Market - BAR NONE!!!
We purchased the GSE 5000 juicer June 4, 2013. I spent MANY hours watching videos (DO check out YouTube, you will learn HOW to Use and Clean all the juicers quickly and easily!!!), and comparing ALL the juicer models out there. The Green Star juicers are the brand you want when you are SERIOUS about the QUALITY of your juice. Period."Fast" juicers basically obliterate the cellular structure of the fruits and vegetables. While this will give you juice quickly, it also destroys micronutrients through the brute force of the extraction, as well as the additional oxidation of the juice by the air introduced through the high speed blades."Masticating" juicers, particularly the currently popular "Vert" models, ARE better, but are still more gimmick than function. The reviews for these praise the better extraction, but MANY problems appear to occur due to the cheap construction of the devices, particularly the screen, which seems subject to breakage. These models have a LOT of plastic parts that are INTEGRAL to the machine, rather than just covers...Now, the Green Star Elite GSE 5000 does have plastic, but the mechanical plastics are STURDY, DURABLE, and RIGID. The only thinner plastic part would be the unit housing cover. This, with reasonable care, should not crack, break, or otherwise fall apart easily. Since it IS an expensive piece of equipment, DO treat the parts with care, regardless how well constructed they are...If you find this juicer "difficult" to clean or assemble, you simply should not be using any appliance more complicated than a spoon. Seriously. "DIFFICULT" IT IS NOT!!!There are only SEVEN (7) parts to take off or put on. VERY EASY. Almost Idiot Proof. The ONLY difficult parts to assembling it are:1) making sure the augers are correctly aligned, with the "one dot" gear tooth between the "two dot" gear teeth of the other auger, and2) Slightly rotating the twin augers when pushing them into the juicer body. They have to turn ever so slightly to align, but again, it is NOT difficult. Just gently "wiggle" them as you continue to gently push, and they will go in.Do yourself and your juicer a favor, and cut your carrots into chunks no longer than about an inch. They will NEVER jam if you do. This goes for almost any vegetable. While the Green Star IS powerful, you purchased it to JUICE, NOT to cut the vegetables up and juice. Also, if you take the extra time to cut the veggies before juicing, you will find that you will have to use FAR less pressure to push them into the juicer. (FWIW, I ALWAYS use the plastic, NOT the wooden pusher - It is DESIGNED not to reach all the way down to the gears, so you will NOT grind any plastic off - ignore that warning in the videos!!!)Get a small bowl, and when the bowl is full, you have enough for a glass of juice. If you are new to juicing:1) Add ice cubes to your juice. The colder the better when you start, TRUST.2) Add a bit of water to dilute it if the taste is too strong - It can take a bit of getting used to.3) Keep a can of frozen Juice Concentrate in the freezer, and add a small spoon to juices that are too "green" to help make them a bit more palatable.Carrots are your juicer's best friend. Put a piece or two after every soft veggie to help push the pulp through.NEVER WAIT TO WIPE YOUR JUICER!!!Every complaint about the Green Star screens is due to people NOT cleaning them promptly (within 30-60 minutes). If you rinse and wipe your juicer FAITHFULLY and QUICKLY, you will never have a screen problem. The Green Star 5000 comes with two brushes, and I have also found that a new toothbrush can do the job of them both pretty well. The screen, which is the hardest part of the juicer to clean, collects fiber on the end where the pulp comes out. This is one reason cutting your produce into small chunks is strongly suggested.Start by brushing the inside of the screen to loosen fibers. Then brush the outside of the screen to remove the loosened plant fiber. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two, tops. For ANYONE who complains about the amount of time to use or clean this juicer, stop and consider the time and energy you would use to prepare and clean up after a regular meal. This juicer extracts MORE juice than any other model except the weird, cumbersome, and expensive Norwalk. And that puppy makes prepping your fruits and veggies into a religious ceremony...And clean up for the Green Star is no more difficult than washing your blender or food processor. Easier in some ways, no sharp blades to look out for. This juicer is an investment, and will change your life in regards to how you look at juicing. Grasses, leaves, even weeds are now part of our diet (Lamb's Quarters are so common, yet SO nutritious - my husband shakes his head, but knows to leave them alone when he sees them, so I can juice them!).The additional cost will make up for itself in the LESS WASTE of juice from your produce, and the WIDER VARIETY of plants that you can put into this machine. With a modicum of care, and a smattering of common sense, you should have NO problems, and YEARS of enjoyment with your Green Star. I know I am having a blast!!!~M

Does the job but slow and requires patience
Pros: gets the juice out of tough cabbages to help treat ulcers. One cabbage can give you 3 full glasses which you can refrigerate for a day or so. Disassembly is easy and working instructions are easy. Despite a lot of cons, I still don't mind this machine as it does its job. Just wish it were faster. However, it is my first double geared masticator which is different I believe from a regular juicer (which incidentally I have never tried before either). The pulp is fairly dry but don't screw in the setting for the driest pulp or it will take forever; rotate the screw halfway or so.Cons: you have to cut the cabbage into fairly thin 1cm or smaller strips (kind of like making coleslaw) to feed into the chute and not too much or it will clog it up. Do not force the plunger too hard or the machine will break. Try to remove the really hard cabbage veins or they will get stuck in the masticator and chop those up smaller and feed separately. It is very slow going and requires patience as this is not a regular juicer but a non heat producing way of crunching down the veggies to preserve nutrients. It takes about 45 min. to fully juice a full cabbage and wash up. Cleaning the machine is a bit of a pain especially the fine filter as the pulp is sometimes hard to dislodge with the brush. If particles get stuck in the chute, and don't grind, reverse the button and I usually fish out the larger pieces with a small pair of tongs and re feed softer leaves. Don't run the machine non stop for more than 15 min. at a time to protect the gears.

One of the Best!
My wife and I use the Elite several times a day and have juiced kale, spinach, carrots, chard, fennel, beets, apples, ginger, endive, cucumbers, lemons, limes, celery, onions, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cabbage, pears and probably some I forgot about. The pulp always comes out very dry. I also bought the pulp knob designed for fruit which allows the fruit pulp to exit the juicer easier keeping the juice from backing up. The only difference is the spring in the fruit knob is weaker than the one that comes with the Elite. I've also used it with the two different homogenizing blanks to make truffles, cracker mix (for dehydrating) and sorbet from frozen bananas and frozen strawberries. Everything always comes out perfect.Tip for making sorbet:Put the gears in the freezer for about 20 minutes before making sorbet. Since the gears are metal they will melt the frozen fruit if not chilled before hand and the first part of the sorbet will come out like liquid until the frozen fruit makes the gears cold. If you're having trouble with the unit shutting down when trying to create sorbet from very hard frozen fruit (the Elite has built in shutdown protection if it detects binding), let the fruit sit for about 5-10 minutes at room temperature before putting through the unit.Tip for cleaning:1. Read the manual! The manual recommends using the dull side of a butter knife to clean the screen. This actually works very well. Hold the screen at an angle under warm/hot running water and start cleaning the screen from the inside. Use the butter knife's dull side to scrape the screen allowing the water to flush the screen from the inside out then clean the outside. This works so well I rarely use the included brush anymore.2. Use the sharp end of a wooden skewer to clean the remnants from the little recessed areas where the end of the gears fit into the part that goes over the screen. Flush with water. When done with the skewer put aside and let it dry for next time. I can usually clean everything in about 4 minutes now.3. To prevent or minimize the white plastic parts of the gears from turning orange when juicing carrots try running the carrots through before other items. If you are juicing carrots only then try spraying on some Fantastik on the plastic parts of the gears when cleaning, let sit for a few minutes then brush with a toothbrush and rinse.I highly recommend the Green Star Elite to anyone looking to get the most juice from a juicer in this price range along with the ability to create sorbet or mix ingredients for truffles or crackers for dehydrating. It's extremely versatile. The next step up would be the Super Angel at $990 or the Norwalk at $2500 both way out of my budget.

Comunque SUPER!!!

Pricey but good
My Greenstar Elite is certainly value for money. Very happy with this juicer that lives up to its excellent reputation.

Great juicer!
Awesome juicer. It works well for greens and carrots as well as fruit. It works well for ginger and turmeric. It gets a lot of juice and reduces the amount of pulp wasted. It's a workhorse and if you break it you can buy spare parts for it even in Canada. Love it! I have done three 30, 40 50 juice fasts on it. I've had it for three years.
