Great thoughtful construction, kitchen must have!
Lodge cast iron products are known for durability and this one will likely be never replaced!! I love that the handle construction is very sturdy and well made, and doesn’t heat up like the rest of the press... I can easily reposition without needing oven mitts. I’ve carpal tunnel and have no issue which maneuvering this over a steak or even Cuban cheese toast. The spacing for your grip in the handle is large enough not to worry about your knuckles hitting the hot area. This was very well thought out construction to a few small points that make a big difference. Cast iron always takes that extra step to wipe down with oil to clean, and this is no different. This could also be considered an inheritance piece as it’s that durable. It does it’s job very well, great weight that’s not light nor too heavy. I purchased a tomahawk steak, and those things are huge! It would not completely fit in my Lodge cast iron 12” pan as the bone sticks out, so I used this grill press and it was very much needed!! It held down enough of the steak’s angle where bone met meat so that it could cook up in the pan. Without the press, it wouldn’t have. I’ve also used on regular steaks and it provides an even cooking rate, which I love! Sometimes a pork chop or steak may bevel a bit with the sides curling but this grill press prevents that. It’s big enough for one whole avg steak, but I’ve also used across 2 steaks for a more even cook. Love this and wish I had bought it sooner! We don’t make a lot of steaks but now it’ll be a staple for when u do.

Works beautifully and is easy to clean
This has substantial weight so it works well. I love the cast iron plate. It is great to clean. I get flat evenly browned bacon.

Purchased for one specific use and it works as I hoped.
This flat-bottomed press is advertised as a way to keep bacon from curling, among other uses. As some reviewers noted, the size of this press is too small to cover strips of bacon, so I'm not sure it is the best use of it. However, I purchased it for one specific use: to press and grill Cuban sandwiches. While I have a nice panini press which is used a lot, it has elevated grill sections so doesn't press the whole sandwich down as is preferred when pressing a Cuban sandwich...all of the bread should be pressed down and grilled until it is crunchy. I had been using a couple of heavy sauce pans placed on top of the sandwich placed in a skillet, but it was too unsteady. This item takes care of that issue. It sits perfectly on top and makes it easy to press down while heating. This may be the only thing I use it for, but since I love Cuban sandwiches and eat them often, it will be used often. Some reviewers experienced problems attaching the handle onto the press, many citing screws that either did not attach easily or protruded too far from the bottom. I did not have those issues; the handle attached easily enough, and no protrusion of the screw heads. It seems sturdy enough, not wobbly at all. Other reviewers cited rust. It is too soon for any rust to have developed, having only used this twice, but I will keep it wiped off so as to minimize this problem. So far, this press works just as I had hoped. And unlike some buyers reported, the handle did not get too hot to hold at all, didn't even need a pot holder. I'm glad I bought it.

Screws, really? No big deal - but important to know
I bought this because I wanted a press that was flat. It's good enough for what I want it for, but as soon as I saw the screws I knew it was going to be a hassle. I have no idea why they wouldn't cast them like most of the other presses. There's probably a reason it doesn't show the bottom in the picture. Maybe when it gives out I'll just weld my own handle on. When something that repeatedly changes temperature has screws they will come loose, no exceptions. The different pieces heat and expand differently. I'm sure you've all had pans with screw on handles. The plate is heavy, but not overly so. Packaging was fine. Hand tightening the screws actually makes it pretty study so maybe don't bother with the tools because it'll loosen up after a couple uses regardless, and you'll want to disassemble it to clean it anyway. The handle appears to be painted steel wire; it's very sturdy - it's very difficult to flex by hand even grabbing the bottom when it is removed. Don't trust the coil to stay cool. I don't know why it's marketed for bacon unless it's understood you'll be cutting the strips in half. As with all cast iron - base away the factory seasoning and put your own on from scratch. I assume you'll want to remove the handle and screws when you do that.

Perfect for flat top grills.
I bought this for my son as a Christmas present. It was the perfect size for his turkey burgers. He enjoys using it. It has just the right amount of weight to use for smash burgers and for cooking turkey bacon on the flat top. Very easy to clean too.

Let The Press Hold Itself!
There is very little I can say that is bad about this press, but I will get it out of the way. - Assembly is not quite the easiest for people with non-working hands. I have arthritis in my hands and assembly was a bit of a tough nut to crack, especially with the "make it stand on edge" style suggested by the manufacturer. Best bet is to let each edge hang over the side of a counter, hand twist the nut onto the bolt, then use the screwdriver and wrench to tighten. - I understand the nuts included for this item, but man do I miss the days of circular open topped nuts. The ones that come with it are a bit hard to get set correctly without feeling like you are going to strip the inside of the nut or the top of the bolt. That is all the bad. Seriously, only two things bad about this item and both are about the assembly where it concerns those without perfect working hands. Otherwise this item is great. It is pre-seasoned but the instructions even state to add a bit of spray-on vegetable oil to the item prior to cooking and after each wash/scrub which is a good idea. Being seasoned or even pre-seasoned does not mean to let an item collect fats for life and never wash it. The weight of the item is nice but may be a bit much for those wanting to make grilled cheese with white bread as it will flatten those sandwiches, especially if you butter the bread like I do. If you like your grilled cheese sandwiches flat as can be then no worries as this is your savior. I would definitely not use this on anything that was not thick enough to support the weight if I wanted some semblance outside of a pancake. That said it is perfect for bacon, that wonderful "add it to everything except mayo because Baconaisse is disgusting" food, as it completely flattens the item. There are no grooves on the bottom of this press which is a boon not a bane. Grooves leave areas for food items to raise up instead of remaining flat, whereas with this press everything under it will remain flat. Definitely the press to buy and use over and again. Buy multiples if you are going to be cooking for amounts above four on a grill otherwise you will be spending more time moving it from item to item instead of spending time with friends and family.

Solid material
Solid product. Heavy weight lets the iron do most of the work. Spiral handle is easy to grip and hold on to. We use this just about every week. Liked it so much that we bought the round one as well.
