Although I HAD to buy this for second year psychology I thought I would try to read some of it before the course. WOW! I couldn't put it down. Written by those experiencing the Mental Illness, it is incredibly moving, insightful, and specific. I learnt so much from this book and felt so privileged to be allowed into the private suffering and experiences of recovery /coping of these generous people. Thank you each and every one of you who contributed to this book, and to those who pulled it together.

Highly Recommended as Mandated Reading for ANYONE!!!!
First Person Accounts of Mental Illness and Recovery is a very insightful text with stories of people who live day-to-day with their diagnoses and their recovery. This book is invaluable for anyone who works with or lives with someone struggling with their mental health. It also is also hope inspiring for those who are in their own personal battles with mental illness. I would recommend Dr. LeCroy and Dr. Holschuh's compliation as mandated reading for students in any field of study with a focus on behavioral health, as well as professionals working with clients diagnosed with mental disorders. The book lends the reader a unique perspective of what it is like for individuals who experience mental illness in their own words and not from third-person observation. It is my hope this collection of first person accounts will strengthen understanding of mental illness and promote even more strength-based interventions and interactions which could lead others to hope and ultimately recovery.

Really interesting accounts to read and reflect on as I am a major in Psychology with a Clinical Focus- it's helping me to understand the difficulties and challenges of living with a variety of mental illnesses as documented by different people with different experiences.
