Although it started off well with some interesting stories from his childhood and teenage years, once he moved to America it tended to become boring in parts with long lists of acquaintances and friends.

Love listening to Alan Watts seminars. Much more interesting than this book detailing his life. Too much detail for me and I found it boring . In retrospect I should've picked one of the many other books he has written if I want to know who Alan Watts was.

Watts not to like?
Very well written reflections of a man who lived his life to the full in a fascinating era.

superb
Watts uses language most beautifully to consider the meaning of Zen and its development from ancient eastern traditions. In doing so he presents an extraordinarily persuasive picture of both the nature of reality, and of human conciousness. Why wouldn't any reader subsequently profess Buddhism? The book is a masterpiece ,a fact realised by many of my contemporaries decades ago.
