Hitachi EC99S 4-Gallon Portable Electric Twin Stack Hot Dog Air Compressor (Discontinued by the Manufacturer)

Great little compressor. Compact, efficient, quiet. Excellent value for home use. No break-in proceedure is noted in the manual. So, I filled the compressor with supplied oil, ran it with no load (tank relief valves open) for 20 minutes. Drained that oil [pretty nasty]. Filled with new oil [15W-40] and ran for two minutes. Drained that oil [pretty clean], fill with new oil [15W-40], good to go.

This product (EC 99S) does not come with a dip stick to measure the oil level. The manual states that using this unit with low or high oil levels will damage the compressor. I had been impressed with Hitachi's products but now I will NEVER purchase any of their products in the future.

Hitachi is manufacturing perhaps the best quality and most reliable nail guns on the market. As such, I decided to go with their compressor to see how it holds up in comparison to the little Emglo I had for twenty years. So far I am impressed. It is fast and quieter than my previous compressor, plus a few pounds lighter.

I would suggest watching videos and listening to the noise levels of different compressors. I was on the verge of buying a Makita compressor which is more money, but this unit is much quieter and just seems to run smoother and happier. We're not devoted to any single brand. We've got a bit of everything. I evaluate tools individually for build quality and value regardless of brand. We have stationary compressors that take care of the shop needs. For our uses, a portable gets taken to a lot of different places, so noise is an important consideration. I'm sold on this unit based on what I've seen and heard.

Great compresser . Only thing I had to go an purchase a new coupling because other 1 was defective . Wasn't worth time an effort to send back .

I just received 2 of these compressors in the mail today. The cheap plastic switch cover was broken off of both of them. I just got a longer screw and washer and remounted them. Very poor design but easy enough to repair. Compressor itself seems to be running great. It is a touch louder than I hoped but plenty of power to keep up with 2 finish guns

This is a fantastic air compressor from a fantastic company that builds top quality tools that are much better and cheaper than the yellow ones.

The pressure regulator where the knob to adjust is came broken! Oiled it up, turned it on and filled the tanks. Five minutes later air just starts shooting out from there.
