MICHAEL ROSEN'S BOOK OF PLAY

Its not just for grown-ups
Im not very good at play. I wasn't as an older child either. It didnt come naturally to me.I encourage play in my children and I want to play with them.So...I purchased a few weeks ago and it's challenging my idea of what constitutes "play" - even though I have qualifications in children, play and development.I think we have warped play into believing it only has value if it has obvious, measurable, educational value or we can observe and map an obvious "process". We have corrupt play.We are only on chapter one because we are using it as a working play manual. The children are taking longer than expected to plan and set up their art gallery. We will move on once this is complete. But I'm already impressed with this book. I thought I was going to whizz through it and take wisdom on my way but I ended up reading aloud to my kids. This book is not just for parents. It's definitely a working manual and I think it would be a mistake to read through it and not take the opportunity to play on the way through it.

An important lockdown read
I have turned to this book when i needed to remind myself of the important things in life. Its been invaluable during lockdown when a lot of us have been spending more time with oursleves. Also great for keeping a playful attittude for those if us lumped with homeschooling.

Amazingggg
Currently studying fine art at uni and can honestly say this is one of the best books I have ever read, like everrrr. Drew my attention to the lack of play in my art practice currently- absolutely mind boggling!

Teaches us all how important play is for our development.
Book was really useful at telling us how to play and of its importance.I'm doing a MA with Michael and could hear his voice reading it. Essentially a book for adults to use with children.
