The Best Flashlights Ever Made...
I have been carrying and using MAGLITE flashlights for longer than I can remember. From the "AA" size to the "6D" size, they have all been reliable dependable and without failure every time I needed them, until they were either lost or stolen. They put serial numbers on them just for this reason. Be careful who you loan them to, as they are highly coveted and they have been known to grow legs and walk away. While I was at sea in the Navy, I accidentally dropped one over the side at night. I have no idea how deep the water was as I watched the light sink into the inky black depths for almost 20 seconds. But, that's as "water resistant" as I will ever need. The "2D" size are the ideal size for storing in your glove box, or in the gadget drawer of your kitchen or on your workbench. they are great for all sizes of hands, and tough enough to withstand accidental dropping, banging and kicking. And the switch in particular is sturdy enough to resist continuous, repetitive on/off testing by curious youngsters. They are perfect in any emergency situation; such as the California rolling blackouts, or a flat tire on the side of the freeway. I keep one in every car I own and I give them to my children to keep in their cars also. Plus there are several in strategic places around my house and garage. Nothing else I have ever owned, except maybe my dog, has been so reliable or dependable (I don't own my very reliable and very dependable wife). And when it comes to presents, and those hard to buy for people on your list. No one, on any occasion, will ever be disappointed when they open a MAGLITE flashlight. And as a giver; neither will you.

Magna light
The lighting sucks a little bit so I'm going to check about a new bulb but it is definitely heavy duty makes a great military flashlight or security flashlight made out of metal

Its well made but it wont hold up against a modern light
This is an old school light. It runs on d cells, the bulb is a dim incandescent, and its button placement isn't great for ease of use. My biggest issue with this is it doesn't drain the battery all that much before I feel it needs a new battery. It looks pretty dim when only 20% of the battery has been used, and for the rest of the batteries life it even less bright then what is on the package. With fresh batteries and a focused beam I could see it on the side of buildings a few hundred yards away. Very impressive! But this performance is not what you will get most of the time because of how quickly the performance degrades as the batteries are used. It is a tough light and I've dropped it on solid ground and had hardly any damage done to the finish of the flashlight. Another nice thing it has is a replacement bulb in the back of the light should one burn out. So credit to Mag light for that. I've had times when a particular battery I used would not work in the light for what ever reason but it seems fairly rare. I like the incandescent bulb in a nostalgic way, but if I was using it for inspecting a vehicle or doing work I would go for an led light that has a more consistent brightness over the life of a battery. The only upside is that if I ever get attacked, this will double as a baton.

Great quality.
When you pick up this flashlight you can feel the build quality. I like that is uses traditional batteries instead of rechargeable lithium ion. Worth every penny. Its bright enough for normal use and the battery life seems good. I like the adjustable light diameter which is easy to use.

Horrible Flashlight
This review is for the incandescent 2 D-cell version, however this is the 3rd Maglite I've owned so I feel well justified in my opinion of the Maglite brand being extremely overrated. Now my very first question is why with all of the benefits of LED is incandescent even still being sold?? Not only is this 27 lumen piece of junk so dim I can only see its benefit under extremely dark situations, but the 206 meters it claims to reach (that's around 675ft) is laughable, I wouldn't be surprised if the range isn't any more than 100' max, most of that 100 barely visible maybe only 20' where you can see clear. As if the most essential element to any flashlight didn't already receive a failing grade, I have to mention that every time I move too aggressively or drop the light even as little as a foot or 2, the bulb falls out and I spend several extra minutes a night opening up and reinserting the bulb. There is (as with any maglight) a rotating head that adjusts the size of the light itself (big circle/little circle) Of course the wider the viewing the dimmer the light, but not by so much that I can call this a fault. However what IS a fault, and this is true on ALL maglites, is when you expand the area you get a huge dark 'O' in the center which is imo the most annoying thing ever. This defeats the entire purpose and I find myself readjusting back to small more than I should ever need to. So that's bad, what else?? Well...did I mention when I first got the light the rubberized cover on the switch fell off on only my 2nd click. I tried reinserting it, 4 clicks later it fell out again. Fortunately I still have part of my old 3 cell (LED) that was missing its cover so I just put it aside to use in rebuilding that (if I ever do). I'd love to recommend the 3 cell LED variety, it's longer and can be used as a defense tool (which is good for me since my job requires I walk around at night in bad areas of town). The grip is great, flipping it up in the air gives the satisfaction that I'm sure many could compare similar to fidgit spinners. I've dropped it multiple times from out of my work truck (approx 10' high) with no major damage, however the switch went out after maybe 6 months (same switch as the one on this light) and I've consistently had problems with fixing it to the point where a year later I found the easiest way to use my light was just remove the battery top and only reinstall and use my light when I absolutely needed it. I would give the LED version a 3 outta 5 star average rating, but I would never ever ever recommend the incandescent version. Maglite should be selling these $5 a piece and clearing their inventory. I promised myself after the 3cell I'd never buy Maglite brand again, but unfortunately the entire reason I got this was to replace the 2cell I lost for a friend while my mechanic at work is working on fixing the switch on my old light. Now I'll be buying yet another because I screwed up and got the wrong one, who woulda guessed? Maglite may not appreciate my review but I hope they at least appreciate my business. I hope everybody appreciates my honestly, I get no thrill out of giving any product a 1 star review.

Consigliata

Let there be light!
The best, most indestructible flashlight there is, with a bright illuminating beam that lights the way forever, it seems. I have not yet used the Maglite as it is intended for use while camping this coming summer. This flashlight has a metal casing and is heavy enough to be used as a defensive weapon to deal with some of the critters, real or imagined, that might lurk in the woods on dark nights.

Well made torches which last a lifetime, upgradeable.
The Maglite 2D incandescent is a well made torch which will outlast just about any other torch. For example I still have my original one from the late 80s which still works perfectly. The incandescent model represents a good purchase when you consider the price against an led equivalent. I upgrade my Maglites with drop in led modules which are available from specialist suppliers who provide various drop in upgrades in wattages depending on your needs. Considering brightness versus battery life, I have different upgrades in each torch depending on its intended use. Plus this means I can do future upgrades if needed. I therefore purchased this torch to put a different upgrade in it compared to my other torches. An led will transform your incandescent Maglite into super bright torch with a focussing beam, a feature I really like. Maglites have a nice build quality, are robust, feel good in the hand, and can be relied upon when you need them.
