They are student grade, but they are extremely high quality student grade. They are made in the Netherlands by the same company which makes Rembrandt professional grade watercolors. To quote from the Dick Blick site, "Artists who try out Van Gogh products are often surprised that they're considered student grade." I love these paints, and they are affordable.

It is a set of watercolours - unfortunately sometimes items can get merged in the Amazon catalogue incorrectly when they try to reduce duplicate items! is the product shown what is to be expected?

If you have used Talens Van Gogh watercolor paints, then you know what to expect. I like them. The watercolors are highly pigmented, they re-wet easily, and the colors are super vibrant. This particular set is great to use at the studio. The wooden box is nicely built, and sturdy. The tray that holds the pans can be removed to use on a spare tin, if you have one, and take it on your travels. The mixing palette is made of plastic, which can be easily remove for cleaning, and replaced back. The fasteners keep the palette in place. The brushes are beautiful, a synthetic round 4, and a red sable pointed round 8. There's room in the box to add pencils or more brushes. I'm happy with this set. I'm my opinion is a great value.

Perm. Lemon Yellow; AZO Yellow Med; Perm. Red Light; Madder Deep Lake; Ultramarine Deep; Cerulean Blue (Thalo); Viridian; Burnt Sienna; Chinese White; Payne's Grey. They are a good mixing set, and very vibrant.

Great paints.

This is one of the best and well rounded color sets out there for this price . If you are starting out and not sure how to create your own pallette, go for this . It just has 10 colours , but you can do a lot with these colours . The quality of the paints is great , it blends really well and are very easy to work with . Highly recommended. I have a lot of paints , but these and the pan set end up being the ones I use the most .

Superior watercolor at reasonable cost

I was looking for a premium quality watercolor which is not super expensive. Settled down with Van Gogh after reading many reviews. I now believe that the decision was right. The colors are bright and transparent, most of the shades are single pigment. It is suitable for most of the watercolor techniques and excellent for layering due to its transparent characteristics. Probably a good alternative for most expensive DS. Please refer an artwork done using these colours
