A fantastic choice all around
I haven't actually worn a wristwatch in over twenty something years, using my pager, cell phone, and other clocks to mark time. Recently a good friend of mine purchased a Rolex. The expense of the watch is obviously meant to impress and it was one of his life goals to own one. I realized that it does irritate me to have to pull out the cell phone or pager to check the time and at this stage of life, I deserved a very nice watch worthy of the success I have achieved. I looked at Rolex, Omega, and others before considering Seiko, the brand of watch my father still wears after 40 plus years. After scrolling through ALL available Seiko choices THIS watch was the only one that had the features I would not compromise on (self powered kenetic, date display, waterproof to 300 feet, and striking masculine appearance). NONE of the Rolex, Omega, etc. had the kenetic powering of this Seiko watch (they were all battery powered) which is stunning given the price of these expensive watches. I read over 200 reviews on this watch and found very few negative ones. Is this watch big? No. I bought it because it appears to be the smallest of this style that has kenetic powering. It fits my wrist perfectly and is as comfortable as any metal band can be. This watch is sexy- when I showed a girlfriend (who is very picky) the watch I was planning on buying she remarked how manly looking it was and that the band was very attractive. All that combined and over a week of research, I made the purchase through Amazon and it arrived exactly when it was supposed to. The watch appears flawlessly finished and is not huge at all when you consider all the watches that are over 38mm in size. When I took the watch in to have the band sized, the jeweler commented on its appearance and asked me where I got it. He was surprised at the low price I had paid. The only feature this watch is missing is a day of the week indicator and if they made one that looked like this one I would buy it. So far, I love this watch, and this from someone who hasn't worn one for decades. If I have any issues I will post further.P.S. I also could not ignore the fact that this watch is numbered "007" which did catch my eye but is NOT the reason I ordered it. If Bond wore a Seiko, it's a safe bet it would be this one.UPDATE 11-10-09: Recently noticed a very very small speck that appeared to be on the crystal next to the date. Wiping did not remove it and with the help of a magnifying glass I was able to determine it was actually a piece of white dust or lint actually stuck to the inside surface of the crystal. Checking further, I spotted two more (even smaller pieces) in the left lower area, also stuck to the inside surface of the crystal. The first speck is almost impossible to see with the naked eye (I have 20/15 vision) and does not distract from the beauty of this watch. The other two specks are essentially invisible. Still a strong recommend.

Nice watch, no Documentation, broken box, and looks used - Imperial Watches should be Ashamed
Just received my "New" Seiko Kinetic watch - it is / was to be a birthday present. The Seiko box is broken. No documentation of any kind. The watch looks used. Very poorly done. Cannot comment on the watch at this point, but the vendor, Imperial Watches should be ashamed of themselves. Very, very unprofessional. Looks like it came from a flea market. Would like an apology and restitution.

Disappointing
The watch, unfortunately, did not meet my expectations.The watch is not that manly in size or heft, the strap is even worse, it tapers off rather narrowly and the clasp is a flimsy sheet of stainless steel with no double locking. The construction does not appear made for any rugged use, I had planned this watch to be my dress and outdoor watch, the non-Coutura Kinetics are perhaps more in line with what I wanted. I am not sure if the mechanical movement inside that charges the battery is shock resistant.There are visual problems with the dial. The sapphire crystal has more shine than normal mineral glass, the smaller sub dials are not very visible under indoor lighting.The listing claimed it as made in Japan, the strap is stamped China and the back of the case and dial says 'movement Japan', by no stretch is this watch fully made in Japan.The packaging left much to be desired, the watch box was not bubble wrapped or padded on all sides, it was in one side of the carton and and there was the air pouch variety packing on another side, the watch had moved inside its box the felt/velour lining inside the lid was abraded from contact. The watch container itself is of cheap plastic construction and the lid came off while opening.I cannot vouch for its accuracy or functional longevity as I have had it for a day and am planning to return it.The price however is great @ $295 against a list price of $750.Added 12-28-10. I returned the watch after discovering that it did not move the hands to the current time on waking up (as described in the manual). I twice let the watch sleep after 24 hrs of inactivity after having fully charged it (getting it out of the 2 sec tick).

I don't expect the crystal to fall off....
Not by a long shot. The big date is nice by doesn't really belong on this watch. I had a real expensive A. Lange (Datograph in platinum) which worked with the big date but this does not look right. A nice watch for the money but it doesn't look good enough on the wrist. Great value but the SNAE67 (on a gorgeous strap) or SNAE 69 (nice bracelet) look better and are definitely more striking. And changing the battery is cheaper than changing this battery or capacitor when the time is up. I do appreciate the large date but the watch hands are not prominent enough (I looked at almost every Sekio and Citizen). The Seiko SNAE67 or SNAE69 (bracelet) are cheaper and better looking. Replacing the battery is cheap. Citizen also has better looking watches ---the limited edition Eli Manning (1,000 pieces --- not so limited or it's just a cheaper AT perpetual chronograph( I got this for $100 less than the Manning.)Take a look at both on your wrist. Moreover, the capacitor/battery does wear out and costs much more than a battery. $1-$2 per battery is good. Probably at least $1000 if Swiss made.Two nice watches but the SNAE 67 or 69 is cheaper, simpler (and more reliable) and better looking. The Snea 67 looks even better but lacks a bracelet (it has arabic numbers which look really. Like a $1,000+ watch. It also has less to break and is wonderfully priced,I don't know why so many of these have sold but so few SNAE's (except because the SNAE's are newer) and have fewer high-tech capabilities (capabilities which are not that important, expensive to repair --- the SNAE battery is $1 while kinetic capacitor replacement is probably $100, and so on).You, your frends, and women will be impressed by the SNAE 67 or 69 looks, not this.And Amazon sells them, too. (For less.)Good luck.

I am far from being an expert but this watch seems very advanced and the price is not scary. My second Seiko and I am pleased.

The watch looks terrific and keeps time to within a few seconds per month which is very good! However, in my opinion it fails in its main function which is to provide an easily read display of the accurate time it keeps.....the dial is so cluttered that just glancing at the dial, frequently requires a second longer look to get the correct time. Although it is an analog-display time piece, like the Seiko Kinetic it replaces, this watch is much harder to read and I would certainly not recommend it to someone needing reading glasses.
