PFERD 17310 Chain Sharp CS-X Depth Gauge File, 8" Length

I bought this file to fit in the Stihl 2 in 1 chainsaw file guide, which it does.

I love the Pferd chainsaw chain sharpener, which both sharpens the cutting surface and files the depth gauge as the same time. This is a replacement part for the file that shapes the depth gauge tooth of the chain. If the depth gauge is not at the correct height relative to the cutting surface, the chain will not cut enough or too much (could kick back). The Pferd and twin Stihl chain sharpeners are the proverbial greatest thing since sliced bread. That is if you slice your bread with a chainsaw.

Pferd in general makes great files. This one is specific to the CS-X chainsaw sharpener, which is equally useful (files the raker gauge at the same as the cutting tooth). Good packaging (zip lock bag with anti-corrosion paper).Recommendation: If you're not going to use this file right away, be sure to lubricate and store it well (like all files should be stored).

Got this today and used it. Wow, amazing idea and execution. I have been sharpening saws for 40 years and most of them freehand because I didn't like carrying all the gauges and guides. I tried the clamp on sharpeners which were also inconvenient. This one, however, is a keeper! Did a great job at setting the depth gauges and the angle alignment was easy.

would be great if these were reverseable or even beveled so the raker is filed at a angle instead of flat, they do cut the rakers really well
