Excellent book
Reading with 9/10 years old, brilliant book, very well written, has kept their interest and they are eager to read more. Fantastic story, will get Anglo-Saxon boy from the same author

Viking Boy
Gunner 15yrs a Viking boy ran home to tell his father he had seen raiders in the forest, father had spoken to Skuli who agreed there were raiders, in the morning he left, Gunner woke to smell smoke, the roof was on fire, 30 warriors were attacking, Gunner and his mother were put through a hole in the wall, one raider had his head removed by his father, father fought bravely but there were to many and he was killed, as Gunners throat was about to be cut Valkyrie arrived on winged wolves for Gunners father, Gunner's mother made him run, Gunner decided he would go to Valhalla and ask for his father back, Gunner prayed at the God house where an old man said he should go to a harbour at Kaupang, Kaubang was huge, Gunner was ambushed and sold into slavery, Rurik a guard brought GunnerRurik and Thorkel took care of Gunner, it was a bad cold winter, Spring arrived, Gunner somehow knew that he could find Valhalla somewhere in Iceland, Rurik and Gunner were stopped by an old enemy Starkad son of Orm with his men, there was a battle and Rurik killed Starkad but they were taken prisoner, both were taken to the shore where they were tied to posts to await the tide, a slow death, Gunner had been given a small knife by an old man and they escaped, Gunner, Rurik and Thorkel find a boat going to IcelandWill Gunner be able to find and speak to the Gods in Asgard, will his father be waiting and what help can they give him to rescue his mother and revenge his fatherMy verdict, nice story, backed with Gunner's strong belief in the Gods

Bringing historical times to life
My son was studying this book at school (Year 5) and so we bought a copy. It is a good read with lots of detail to help understand the Viking period as well as the mythological aspects that formed their beliefs. Very readable with some nicely challenging words.

Fabulous children’s book
The kids in my class (aged 8-9) loved this story.WARNING: Some graphic scenes so may not be suitable for children of a sensitive disposition
