Great quality, absolutely too big if you have 8' or 9' ceilings
I would give this a 5 star, but I cant because the size jump from the other VideoSecu model was just too large. I ordered the MPC53B 1S5 model, and it didn't quite fit my LED 65" television. No problem, we ended up using it on our other 50" plasma in the basement, worked perfectly for our needs. I then ordered this model thinking it would be the same construction, design as the previous unit, just a little bigger/beefier than the "mid-level" model.I mounted this the unit to a 2x10 stud I had extra from a past project, and mounted it perpendicular to the ceiling joists in the attic. I went to the attic, slid the pole through the hole in the drywall I cut out, and lagged in the cross stud to the joists. I went down to adjust to the height, and realized that this new unit was a MONSTER compared to the other 2 units we have ordered from VideoSecu. The Highest setting to hang the TV was about 2 feet lower than what we needed, with absolutely no way of adjusting this. What I ended up doing was moving the mounting position up in the attic up 2 whole feet to suck the slack out where I needed. This mount is absolutely not for 8 or 9 foot ceilings, UNLESS YOU WANT TO WATCH YOUR TV WHILE IT IS ON THE GROUND. This mount would be perfect if the upper end had more flexibility in it to adjust for different height ceilings.Well built, easy to install, even comes with a level to make sure you tighten it while it hangs level...brilliant. I have 8" ceilings and bought this to hang from the attic over a fireplace so I didn't have to mount directly in to the brick...flat out too big to hang from 8 " and I would even guess 9" ceilings.Would be perfect for bar/restaurant owners who have lots of down-space to work with.

A stout piece that looks and feels like it would support two sets.
I decided to go with this ceiling mount to hang a 65" LCD over my fireplace mantel. This would solve the problem of needed to secure a wall mount onto sheetrock that was pretty much just placed over brick without any reasonable framing. The ceiling mount would poke out of my drop ceiling and hang down atop the mantel. The VideoSecu is very well made unit offers plenty of adjustment. Despite some "lost in translation" instructions, it's pretty simple and mounted easily to the unfinished ceiling above my basement drop ceiling. I added a piece of 2x6 on its face between the joists and lagged the mount onto it. The ample provided hardware was long enough to go through the 2x6 and partially into the subfloor, providing a really solid mount. I was surprised to find that the sliding tubes that comprise the mount were so long - I couldn't make it short enough to hang the TV just inches below the drop ceiling like I wanted. Sure, my ceiling is very tight - a mere 4" from the ceiling joists - but I still needed to cut almost 2' of tube from the unit in order to shorten it up enough. I used a tubing cutter and removed about 12" from each piece, then re-drilled a hole in the larger diameter piece for the lockpin. In doing this I lost the threaded boss for the set screw between the pieces, but that's really overkill since I won't be touching the TV once it's up anyway. I can attest that this mount does more than it's designed for since it easily supported my 240-pound body as I did a couple of pull-ups on it. The tilt feature operates smoothly, and my thick hand can even get into the mechanism to lock it down once the right angle is obtained - something I was unable to do with a different brand. An excellent choice for the money, and a real problem-solver.

im glad i bought it
price was very reasonable, i had initially purchased a wall mounted one for over $200 at a wholesaler that swiveled, articulated etc. i wanted to mount it over my fireplace where the wall was brick. i saw this ceiling mount and thought it was a great alternative to drilling and anchoring in to the brickwork. my brother got up in the attic and nailed a 4x4 between the rafters where i wanted to hang it and we mounted it to that, i have a 55 inch screen. it held very well with lag bolts and i was able to hang from it so we attached the TV. it works great, and looks cool people ask me if it goes up in to the ceiling when i turn it off, haha. it swivels as well and i even saved about $150 after returning the wall mounted one.

great for the price!
Purchased this unit for a 42" LCD tv being used in our office. The mounting bracket would have been nice if it were able to be angled to mount on the side of a beam in the ceiling. Anyways, used a 2X6 and secured that to the exposed beam on the ceiling. Once installed it may appear to be pretty loose, but the weight of the tv balances the arm and secures it nicely.

Very nice and easy to hang
Very nice and easy to hang. Only problem is there is nothing to cover the bracket and wires coming out of the ceiling. Manufacturer does not offer one. We improvised by painting a load pan black, drilling hole for the tube, added O ring and it looks great. Very happy.

Custom Install
Note that if you have 8' ceilings and want this to mount more-or-less flush to the ceiling, you will need to do a little bit of work. This was entirely my fault for not checking my dimensions ahead of time. I was able to fashion a sort of receded ceiling in the attic roughly 18" above the actual ceiling and mount the bracket in the actual attic. I attached some 2x12s vertically perpendicular to my ceiling joists and then set another 2x12 across them to create my new surface. It was a little cramped, but it works and is certainly sturdy enough to hold my TV. This wound up with a cleaner look (in my opinion) as now the only thing on my living room ceiling is my perfectly-sized hole for the pipe instead of the entire bracket piece. After accounting for my own error, I was very happy with the mount.

Need over 12 ft ceilings to use this mount
This is a good price and heavy duty, but I was not able to use it. It is very long, before the ability to adjust is available. I would suspect that you would need over 12 ft ceilings (without an angle) to use this mount. It is probably going to be too heavy for me to bother sending back.

Pole too long!
The pole is too long for average ceiling height. I had to be creative and mount it to the sencond story floor joist without compromising the joist. Cutting the pole could also work. If not the TV would have blocked the fireplace. I might as well have placed the TV on a stand.
