Absolute Swamp Thing 3

Quality matches that of the first addition
If you have read the first volume, you understand how much effort DC put into making this one for the ages. The quality is equal here I believe, though for my copy the back few pages look like they may pose any issue in the future with the binding 🤔. Perfectly fine for now, but with the weight of the book being so hefty, it looks like it's already straining the back half of the binding when opened.... You can see the white of the inner binding when the book is layed spread flat 🤷. Just my take. But the volume is beautiful. I look forward to reading it after I finish some other works. Book arrived undamaged and that's all I care about when I order such expensive art. I do believe it could've been packed even better, to prevent the book from sliding around, but I can't complain if it's undamaged. So thank you Amazon. Keep up the good work and for those that are interested in this story ark.... You can't go wrong. One of the best stories in comic history. The writing is spectacular. The new art is amazing. It's a no brainer if your interested.

The absolute best way to buy this comic
The Saga of the Swamp Thing comes to a wonderful conclusion in this Absolute Edition. The new colors printed on thick high quality paper in an oversized volume makes reading these comics feel special. The writing and storytelling of this saga is among the best of any comic and for anyone looking to collect something amazing, you can not go wrong with this volume. The slip case has wonderful art on the front and the back. The interior book has a great design and the cover has a felt like finish that is soft to the touch. Each page is printed on high quality thick gloss paper which makes the art pop much better than the newsprint style trade paperbacks. The back of the book has wonderful extras and a script which is a cool way of seeing how the comic was written before the art was drawn. This was worth every penny and I would recommend purchasing the Absolute Swamp Thing to anyone interested in collecting this run.

What a trip!
I've made my way through all three volumes and what a fun strange trip it has been! Whatch out for try those tubers maaaan. I never read the original run so I can't make the comparison with this new modern re-coloring. I loved what they did with the art and coloring! Very vibrant. Swamp thing took a while to realize his full potential, but once he does, WOW! I actually really appreciate the love story at the heart of this series and I'm usually not a fan of that kind of stuff. I'm going to read Nancy Collins Swamp Thing next! I'm all about that Swamp Thing lol

A great updating of the original stories
I bought this because it was recolored by the great Steve Oliff. I love the new coloring… I think it’s superior to the original coloring. I wish all classic comics could be updated like this. The book is massively oversized and the printing is superb. This is Vol 3, so there are two other recolored volumes out there as well. Recommended!

No Moore volumes of Absolute Swamp Thing after this! ;)
Not going to get into the quality of the art or writing in this later volume of material, these comics have been around for years and reviewed many times over. I will say that these stories are some of my all time faves and in my case it was about getting a complete collection of these stories into a few beautifully realized deluxe volumes which look great on the shelf, and I'm happy to finally have the full collection all lined up and looking pretty awesome. I think they did a good enough job on these volumes overall, comparable to a remastered classic album, still a great album but maybe you're hearing some stuff you couldn't before due to slightly more clarity in some cases etc.If you have previous absolute volumes you know what to expect from the re-done colouring, you're either fine with it or you're not... doesn't bug me, plus I have the original paperback volumes, as well as a few of the original issues if I really want to relive that era. Overall the beautiful mossy book cover texture, the chosen art on each, the decent amount of bonus material at the end of each volume and the thick slip cases make this a must have. I should mention that the format of volume 3 matches the last two books. At the end of the day these volumes may not be for everyone, but then, you can't please all of the people all of the time I suppose and there are other options for those who prefer the original vibe.

Last And Least
So: the final year of Alan Moore’s game-changing run on Swamp Thing finally arrives as an Absolute.Sadly, there’s the feeling of the quality and consistency tailing off towards the end. Historically, Moore had no problem juggling multiple projects; but here he was also working on the forensically complex Watchmen while his relationship with DC was collapsing in the background, and it shows a bit. There are a couple of fill-in issues written by Veitch and Bissette which are very awkward, and even the last few by Moore himself are slightly lacklustre. The art here is primarily Rick Veitch inked by Alfredo Alcala, and they’re not a good combination. Veitch is great when he inks his own work, but Alcala’s dry linework makes everything looks stiff and flat and exposes a lot of his weaknesses. It just doesn’t have the beautiful texture that John Totleben brought to everything.Art reproduction is slightly less impressive: lines and lettering look a little muddy. The controversial new colouring really does not convince this time around: most of the art looks as flat as it ever did but with an odd-looking overlay of fussy colour. Extra objects are digitally added here and there. It’s really jarring in a George Lucas sort of way. I was interested to see how it might work on a couple of the weirder stories but the answer is, sadly, ‘not very well at all’.Still - there are two of the greatest comics of all time in here. ‘My Blue Heaven’ is pure poetry, where Veitch & Alcala’s art really sings. ‘Loving The Alien’ is a bizarre masterpiece, with Totleben returning to produce what you might call ‘Steranko-on-acid’ collage illustrations for Moore’s prose story. The luxury double-issue of Swamp Thing vs Gotham City is great, and you get the 1984 team-up (sort of) with Superman as a bonus.Extras are substantial and very good - an afterword by Totleben, Moore’s script for ‘Loving The Alien’ and some scans of original art pages. There’s also a piece by Steve Oliff on the digital recolouring with some side-by-side comparisons that make the heart sink. I’m so glad I kept my old hardcovers. So: not as absolutely essential as the first two volumes. But there’s enough fascinating stuff here to make it well worthwhile.
