I bought this fan after trying a similar Delonghi model. The issues with the Delonghi model were that it had an auto tip over shut off system that kept turning off the unit even though it was still perfectly upright. This was more common on the oscillation. This unit arrived yesterday and it is very very similar to the delonghi in terms of size, however this feels a little more study and the bass being made of a glass or ceramic disk is much heavier and stylish. It is easy to put together with just the base attached to the main unit with a small plastic nut. The unit has high/low setting and you can put the preferred temperature to reach. It will run until it hits this temperature then auto shut off. It will turn on when the temperature drops again. The unit is relatively quiet compared to other similar units and much quieter than the smaller units. The heat output is sufficient to heat a decent sized room to a comfortable level (it is -1 outside as I write this review). The unit is controllable on a small disk at the top or via remote control. Much like the Delonghi the remote control will only operate when the fan is facing you which means you have to wait for it to oscillate towards you before you can shut it off. Overall I am very pleased with this fan in as much as it works very well as a heater and is relatively quiet. My only quibble is that it cannot be used as a cool air blower like many other units. This would have really made this an excellent heater.

Had this for a couple of weeks so can't speak to long term reliability but, for the price, the unit is very well designed and constructed and the remote control is a great features. Only quibble is with how some of the controls work, for instance: * When put into standby mode the unit forgets its high/low power and sweep left/right setting. When coming out of standby the unit defaults to low power and non-oscillating mode, so you need to set these every time if that's not how you want it. Kinda annoying given that mechanical switches would have at least remember your last settings. The unit does remember the thermostat setting in standby. * When coming out of standby mode with the room already hotter than the selected thermostat temperature, the unit runs for about 20 seconds and then turns off, even when the room was obviously hot enough already and no heating was required. This might be to pull air through the unit and onto the internal thermometer so the temperature reading reflects the room temp but it's still feels odd when it happens. * When going into standby mode with the fan & heater running, the unit runs for about 10 seconds before actually turning off. This might be to run room-temp air over the heating element to cool it down before going into standby mode but, again, it still feels odd when it happens. * By detault, pressing the +/- buttons on the remote does not adjust the selected thermostat temperature, it does nothing. To adjust the thermostat temp by even s single degree you have to press the 'mode' button twice (once to get the 'timer' setting and then a second time to get the thermostat setting) then press +/- as required and then press 'mode' again to confirm the change. This is pretty clunky given that tweaking the temp is the thing I do most often and I personally don't use for the timer (and if I did I wouldn't mind if it was de-prioritised in favour of the temp setting). That said, don't let these quibbles put you off, this is a great heater and the remote control will leave you wondering how you ever managed to use a room heater without one!

This Dimplex Ceramic Tower heater is ultra-easy to put together (I didn't need a single 12 year old). Ultra-easy to use. Remote control is foolproof (and being a fool that's very handy). It's an ultra-efficient fan heater. Will heat smaller to medium sized rooms up very quickly, larger rooms take a little more time but this slim tower will meet the challenge. It has two power settings (1.5 and 2.5 Kw), the lower setting will maintain the room temperature and is energy efficient, too. I used it a lot over a 2 - 3 week period, it added only about 1 KwH to my electricity usage. Only minor niggles: 1) fan's a bit noisy (but that's probably a feature of it being a fan) 2) thermostat may not show the room's actual ambient temperature. I was using my heater to heat my lounge, due to no central heating, however the lounge is also where the central heating thermostat is. I found the heater showed a far lower temperature consistently than the CH. When the heater showed 18 centigrade the CH showed 23 - 24 c. When the former showed 21 c. the CH was up at 28 - 30 c. Uncomfortably warm. This may be due to where the fan heater's thermostat is placed relative to the floor, but I don't know. But, this differential being allowed for it's a great, great buy, and real value for money at £80. If you've recently spent £350 plus on a Dyson tower heater eat your heart out (a friend has and this Dimplex is more than equal to the task and £270 less). Would recommend in a heartbeat to people who need emergency heating, or just want an occasional supplement. Despite the minor niggles, I have to give it 5 stars because I do LOVE it.

On purchasing this product (two infact) I was looking for a movable heat source that was quick and effective. The units do emit more noise than expected but as long as you do not sit on "on top" of them then they are fine. You can control the unit directly from the console on the front or via the small credit card sized remote control (battery included). The unit can oscillate if desired to help spread out heat more quickly and has a low or high heat setting. The user can set the heater to go off at a pre-determined temperature setting and the heater will automatically come on and go off to maintain that temperature. Alternatively the user may set the heater to come on for a set period of time (increments of 1 hour - up to something like 12 hours) at which point it will switch itself off. If the user selects a time setting please note the unit will stay on constantly until the time set has been achieved. Please note that when you turn the heater off it will seemingly continue to run....do not worry this is a deliberate design feature whereby the fans continue to run for approx 10 seconds without heat to bring the unit's heat down before shutting down. The unit is a very elegant yet sturdy design and looks more like a free standing speaker than a heater, with a classy heavy black glass circular base for stability. All in all an excellent product with a super smart design thrown in for good measure. I would recommend this heater to a friend.

Purchased this heater for conservatory being used as an office. Good looking heater which warmed the space adequately enough but found it too loud. I chose this particular heater on the strength of it being a Which? best buy. The main selling point was it being one of the quietest heaters on test. I would hate to hear the competition if this was one of the quietest. Unit has now been returned and will now probably go down the convector heater route.
