This box is designed to hold 2 receptacles. You can get a narrower deep box for one. Some outlets may require a box this size but will have holes (for screws) spaced to match those in this box.

is there an electrical box cover that fits this?

The four tabs (2 each on top and bottom) fit 2 devices side-by-side: two duplex outlets, two switches, two Decora (e.g.,GFCI), etc., or a combination. Then you cover it with a plate of the type that you'd use as a wall cover. The plate screws fasten the plate to the switches. It does not fit a mud ring or steel device plate, both of which require a box with screws on opposite corners. You need a ground screw for the box and as well as a cable fastener, either plastic or metal, to hold the cable as it enters the box. It's not always easy to sort this out, even when staring at the Home Depot/ Lowes device box and cover aisles. Maybe the big-box stores are worse, now that I think about it. See Hubbell Wiring 192 4" Eight 1/2" and Four 3/4" Knockouts 1-1/2" Deep Square Box. This is shallower than your 2 1/8 but it is a drawn box (rounded corners) with the two screws on opposite corners.
