Great gift!
I purchased as a gift for my dad, great quality, very descriptive and exactly what I was looking for to replace an older birding book my dad had. He loved it.

Best Birding book!
I bought this for a friend who was in a nursing home with a feeder outside the window. She was so thrilled to be able to watch the birds when she got the feeder, that I thought she'd like to be able to identify them as well. She did.She loved this book. We have so many different kinds of birds in our area that she had a really wonderful time telling the sparrows from the finches from the nuthatches from the grossbeaks and everyone else! Then we'd compare notes and she'd show ME in the book which ones she'd identified. She and I had a wonderful time. This book has more in it than the Peterson Field Guide, which is really nice, although it's not separated except per bird. So there is not an "Eastern" Guide or "Western" Guide the way Peterson's is. But I really like it anyway. So did she.

Great training tool for new birders
First thing is depictions of groups of birds, I can kind of tell the group by shape. Second is teaching you the four fundamentals of identifying birds. Then the groups are arranged in a logical manner. The Cornell School of Orbit holly has a core focus on training citizen scientists. I find them extremely helpful in developing my border skills.
