I can’t believe I was middle aged before I read this!
The first two thirds of the book is full of interesting descriptions of a totalitarian regime, but there doesn’t seem to be any imminent danger. It’s written kind of like an essay. You feel like the danger is happening to other people when the totalitarian regime is discussed. No doubt Winston is unhappy and living only half a life, but he seems to find some level of happiness in that world. Then all of a sudden it’s over and the real danger, torture and the breaking of the mind begins. It was scary but I couldn’t put it down. I can see why this is a classic and I wish I’d read it earlier in my life. Incredibly well written. Gave me vocabulary lesson too! I know there was a film made about it and there are many cultural references out there, but I feel the time might be right for another film or tv adaptation. To quote George Orwell: “If one simply proclaims that all is for the best and doesn't point to the sinister symptoms, one is merely helping to bring totalitarianism nearer”.

Wonderful book
This is as good as the first time I read it in my teenage years. Excellent.

Great book! Kindle version has typos. Tour legs - should be four legs, used throughout. How?
Loved the book. Annoyed about spelling errors!

essential reading still
Orwell did his utmost to warn us about the dangers of things to come; his observations are never out of date but sharply in focus for modern times, but are we ready to learn yet! I doubt it

Two classics in one book
Two classic novels in a single book. I have read 1984 several times, but always find something new in reading it again, reading Animal Farm first brings a whole new context to it.

Difficult
Heard a lot about these two books so for 99p on kindle thought I would give them a try. Animal Farm was quite interesting and had a meaningful story. But 1984 I could not make head or tail of it.

Good Value Option
Expected this to be a bit hit and miss quality wise but no it is fine. Less than a quid for two books can’t be bad.

Great
Loved Animal Farm the first time I read it years ago, and the reread was just as good.

Two of the greatest books ever written
Well written and insightful. Both ought to be required reading both in high schools and in colleges.

No está 1984.
De los dos títulos que figuran en la portada del libro, no puede leerse más que uno. No está 1984.

Two classics combined.
In general a nice book. The quality is what you'd expect from a new paper back. There's a few wasted paged in my opinion as the novels are introduced by Charlotte Wood and Don Watson. In saying that you can simply skip the introduction and get straight to the novels.
