It's a great back up power option for the UV5R radio

They're not of the highest quality that could be made but for the price they're a good value and on par with other offerings out there.Be aware that if you use alkaline batteries you will need a dummy battery as 6 alkalines provide too much power and the radio will inhibit transmit (receive will still work) until the batteries wear down to a safe voltage. Using rechargeable (nicad, NMh, etc) avoids this issue. However, if emergency operations are something you may use your radio for, be sure to include a dummy battery in your gear as on an emergency operation you're going to be resupplied with alkaline batteries in the field.

This works well for my Baofeng UV 5R however, the seller did not indicate that a “dummy” aa cell must be used with other alkaline 1.5 volt cells. If all battery spaces are filled with AA cells, the voltage for the radio is too high, and although it will receive, it will not transmit at the 9 volts provided by 6 AA cells. If all rechargeable cells are used, I would suspect that this would work.The seller gives no information in the product description, nor are there any instructions, or a dummy AA cell provided with this product.I would give five stars if the info from the seller was more forthcoming.Once I figured out why my radio wouldn’t transmit, I solved the issue ( using a dummy AA cell with 5 x 1.5 volt alkaline cells) but to no thanks to the seller

Didn't have to mod this to get it to fit a Luiton LT-F9HP or a BF UV-5R. Works great with NiMH rechargeables. Seats firmly and never had a connection issue. Remember to use rechargeables or get a dummy battery, won't work with regular alkalines unless you use a dummy load for one. Worth every cent.

There's another review that had said this: Cut a little piece of credit card or the like, and insulate the middle connection to keep it from shorting where the case connects to the radio. Good advice. 👍
