Whether I’m listening to music, podcasts or hosting a small gathering, it performs flawlessly every time.Battery life is fantastic too. I can use it all day without worrying about recharging and the added bonus of being able to charge my phone from it is incredibly convenient. I’ve been using the JBL Charge 5 for a few months now, and it continues to impress me in every aspect. Fit and Size are just right — compact enough to carry around easily, yet heavy and solid enough to feel premium. It fits perfectly in my backpack’s side pocket and doesn’t take up much desk space.The sound quality is outstanding for its size. The bass is deep and punchy without overpowering the mids and highs, which remain clear even at high volume. I’ve used it both indoors and outdoors, and it performs equally well in both environments.Connectivity is also flawless — Bluetooth pairing is fast and stable, and the range easily covers an entire apartment. It reconnects automatically to my phone every time I turn it on, which is super convenient.When it comes to ease of setup, it couldn’t be simpler. You just press the power button and pair it once — no confusing steps or additional apps required unless you want to customize settings.In terms of value for money, I’d say it’s one of the best portable speakers in its price range. I am a bit into hifi and things, so I have always been sceptical about bluetooth speakers and even more so about boom boxes with lights etc.The hifi is nice, but you wouldn't take it to your bathroom while having a shower, or next to your bed while reading, or to the park. So, I decided to give this speaker a go.I investigated first and a few key points made me go for this option:- no lights and other unecessary things- clean and nice design (related to the above)- has a mid woofer and separate tweeter which should increase clarity and range- long battery lifeOk. I got it out of the box and I was impressed. It would be completely stupid to compare it with the hifi sound on Focal floor standers and class B amplifier.So I will be referencing my impressions for what it is,a portable speaker. And man, this thing delivers.My view.The speaker sounds clear, it plays well with many different genres of music, playing rock tunes lovely and clearly (the dedicated tweeter surely helps).The sound signature is V shaped, which means it is slightly equalized to increase the highest and lowest frequencies. This is normal for regular listeners, a flat response would not sound nice on such speaker. Having said that, the bass is not exagerated and the extra bit helps when using it outside, for sure.The sound is directional, so the best sound comes from the front (where the JBL logo is).The speaker maintains a really good sound signature at low volume, which is perfect for when going to a park and you don't want to disturb others, or while reading with some background music.It does have plenty of volume to fill up a room with sound. I haven't tried pairing it with another speaker, something you can apparently do. I do not have another one, I expect the result to be satisfying. But for bigger setups I would always recommend an hifi set, even with bookshelf speakers.Me and my girlfriend used the speaker for a few hours so far and the battery hasn't yet even dropped below 50%. In fact, we haven't yet had to charge it since it came out of the box!The speaker can be updated using the JBL app using the mobile phone.It is rated to be water and dust resistant, but I haven't tried that. I guess it is a bonus for when using it in the misty bathroom while showering, or if it gets a bit wet carrying it in the park. I don't see any point to put it on water on purpose.In short.It is an expensive speaker, no doubt. But if like me you listen to some variety of music that doesn't need just bass, you find rgb and lights to be a minus rather than a bonus, you like sometimes to listen to it at low volume... This speaker is absolutely perfect for that and it is worth the small extra investment.Consider also that bluetooth is a constantly evolving technology, so it lasts less than an analog system. This speaker uses the latest bluetooth standards, so it will last you for a bit longer.You always have your hifi when you want to get the full listening experience, but this thing will get a nice smile on your face :)

Very impressive. Bought this for BBQs, holiday hotels, air bnbs etc. Sound quality is great. I have an amp and Bowers Wilkins speakers at home and the clarity from this is easily as good. It's very mid-dominant but the 3 channel equaliser in the app is useful if you want to tweak the sound, but I mostly leave it in neutral.Sounds fuller indoors as most speakers can't move outside air, but in the garden this does still push out strong bass notes, certainly enough for not drowning out your guests! I am snobby about stereo sound but I think this is fine for it's use, and the soundstage is easily enough.It's portable to a point. Think of it as a bottle of wine without the stem in weight and size. I did consider (and trialled) a flip 7 but the bass isn't anywhere near as good. I might think twice about lugging it on a long walk but to a picnic or in hand luggage then no problem.The finish is rugged but I would worry a lighter material might get dirty and so went for the blue. Looks great.Recommended. For travelling and outdoor use it's the best on the market at this price level.

I am writing this review after using this product for three weeks. Here are a few things you should consider while buying a Bluetooth speaker and where the JBL speaker stands in these parameters.1. Sound - The sound quality of this speaker is extraordinary compared to its size. The sound is crystal clear at the highest volume, and the speaker performs well in delivering mids and highs. JBL signature Bass is the USP of this company, and this product is not an exception. However, it would be foolish (and unreasonable) to expect a home theatre experience from this product. It has a 30W speaker compared to more than 60W speakers of a typical home theatre system.2. Battery - It delivers what JBL claims in its advertisement. The battery easily lasts for 20 hours when the speaker is used at 50% volume (loud enough to shake a small-sized room). Even at higher volumes of 80-90%, the speaker lasted more than 14 hours during my test use.3. Build Quality - The speaker weighs around 1 kg and has a solid build quality. It feels sturdy and premium and has got a very good quality finish.4. Power Bank - This speaker can be used as a power bank to charge your device in need. A handy option if you are in dire need of fuel for your phone (obviously when you are travelling).5. Other features - Add-ons like water resistance and dust resistance seem to work based on my current usage with this product.Cons - The only downside of this product is not being able to produce stereo sound when multiple JBL speakers are connected. It delivers mono sound (which is fine as the company doesn't advertise this product as stereo sound speakers. The difference between a stereo and a mono sound is that stereo audio is capable of producing the perception of sounds coming from different directions, whereas mono audio can not produce this effect.Overall Review - This is a great product for those who like to party on the go. It's highly portable, has got great battery life, build quality and brilliant sound with JBL signature Bass. I am certain nobody is going to regret buying this product.

I have a JBL Series 1 for 20 years+ so I tried the bluetooth Charge 5 because I need something with good Bass for garden work outside and be wires free. Yes the Bass is a quality sound (I'm a Bass player) and the middle and top sound levels (eq) can be adjusted via the JBL free app and easy to do. The sound is full and worth the money. The build quality is robust and feels very good quality. It comes in an excellent presentation box and be an ideal present, which I did already with a flip 6.If you get greedy and buy another Charge5 speaker to match up ("party mode") the sound becomes fuller and can place the speakers in different parts of the garden but must be the same model to pair up.(Now that I think of it you could hide speakers in the woods and send realistic wolf howling sounds).If you pair with another speaker make sure they are different colours and after pairing you can't control the eq so lose 1 star for that. Otherwise worth the money. The sound can be full and loud so ideal for a Bar be cue or such but be careful of the volume with neighbours as it can sound like a live band is playing in your back garden.

Update: March 2024.I have now bought a second Charge 5, to allow stereo pairing. To say the sound blows me away is an understatement. Individually, the Charge 5 is a fantastic speaker, and I raved about it in my original review below. As a stereo pair, the sound is taken up to another level! For around £250 for both speakers, you have room filling separation, fabulous open clarity, rich bass, and of course the total versatility that portable Bluetooth speakers can bring! The pairing process is easy, via the JBL Portable App, and takes seconds. The reward is immense. I urge you to buy one. Then I urge you to buy a second.Original review:I really love this speaker for so many reasons. Mainly of course the sound quality. That’s the most important aspect of any speaker for me. The sound from the Charge 5 is open and clear, I hear so much detail, even in complex musical passages.There was plenty of charge when firing it up for the first time, pairing was immediate, and the JBL portable app was also an immediate success. The unit feels substantial and robust, even though I have no intention of taking it to the beach, submerging it in water, and my pool party days are long gone!! Hang on, I’ve never been to pool party!!From playing my first tracks, I was aware of a wide grin on my face! This unit may be top quality, but it’s also fun! It makes you smile. The opposite was true for me, with a Sony SRS-XG300 that I bought at the same time - tempted by a great Black Friday deal on the Sony. I returned the Sony and will buy a second Charge 5 to have the option of stereo pairing.Back to the Charge 5. I was very happy with the clarity of the sound fresh from the box, and even happier with some mild tweaking of the app equaliser. It didn’t make a huge difference, but a subtle one. I do have various other portable Bluetooth speakers, including a Soundcore motion boom plus, but I can already tell the Charge 5 will become my go-to choice. My Audio Pro Addon C5A has beautiful rich sound, but is of course mains only.I’d read so many reviews of various speakers, and the Charge 5 usually is very favourable reviewed, especially by What Hi-Fi, where it gets many awards. I can now understand why. This is an absolute joy, and will make me listen to even more music than I already do! I’m a very VERY happy buyer.

Absolutely the best speakers you can get. The sound is beyond amazing, the battery life lasts long and for the price of it, I would even recommend getting 2, which is exactly what I did! You will not be disappointed.

Kurz: Wer einen Bluetooth Lautsprecher mit ordentlich Wums haben will, sollte sich die Charge 5 holen, allerdings mit einem wichtigen Voraussetzung (siehe unten)Lang: Die Charge 5 ist meine erste JBL Box, mein bisheriger Bluetooth Lautsprecher war die Bose Soundlink Mini (1. Gen). Man hat die Bose einen geilen Sound mit kräftigem Bass, dachte ich bisher.Aufgrund von Akkuproblemen der Bose Box hab ich mich auf die Suche nach ner neuen gemacht. Meine Ansprüche sind langer Akku, guter Bass und Sound und die Größe. Ich höre viel Apashe zur Zeit (Künstler auf YT anhören), also sehr basslastige Musik mit Gesang. Zur Auswahl standen am Ende:- Bose Flex- Marshall Emberton- Soundlink Mini 2- JBL Charge 5Marshall Emberton: ausgelegt für Rock etc. mit 20 h Akku , eher weniger Bass aber mega guter Sound. Aufgrund des geringeren Basses aussortiertBose Flex: heftiger Bass, kompakt, guter Sound ABER "nur" 12 h Akku und zweites noch größeres ABER: man kann die Box NICHT mit dem Laptop verbinden, da die Bose Connect App gebraucht wird und die gibt's nur für Android/iOSSoundlink Mini 2 war mir dann doch zu "alt", weil Technik sich schnell weiterentwickelt. Merke: Je höher die Bluetooth Version ist, desto akkusparender ist die Verbindung zum Handy... Heutiger Standard ist BT 5.1 und Bose hat den noch nichtJBL Charge 5: guter Sound, langer Akku (bis zu 20 h bei mittlerer Lautstärke, allerdings ist die Box da schon relativ laut im Vergleich zu anderen). Und richtig guter Bass, ABER es müssen zwei Punkte erfüllt sein1. Die Box muss die neueste Firmware Version haben, damit der Equalizer in der JBL Portable App benutzt werden kann. Bass hab ich auf den höchsten Regler, Mitten eins hoch und Höhen eins runter und2. Euer EQUALIZER auf dem Handy muss entsprechend eingestellt werden.Ich habe ein Samsung S21 Ultra und mein Equalizer war Standardmäßig auf "normal". Zu finden ist der in der Samsung Musik App oben rechts auf die drei Punkte -> Ton & Einstellungen oder so). War vorher recht enttäuscht vom Sound...klang schlecht, wenig Bass.Habe den Equalizer auf "Rock" gestellt und siehe da, mehr Bass, allerdings waren die Höhen und Mitten bissl anders. Jeder sollte damit rumspielen, bis die perfekten Einstellungen gefunden sind (Internet gibt's Infos, wann und wie mehr Bass etc.). Die Einstellungen vom Equalizer wirken sich auch auf andere Kopfhörer aus, nur so am Rande. Ich benutze noch die Sony XM4 und musste den Bass in der Sony App runter stellen, da mir sonst die Ohren weggeflogen wären 😅Also kurzum: ich bin mega happy mit der Box, ob draußen oder drin: sie gibt den Sound gut wieder und außerdem kann man sein Handy noch daran laden

The JBL Charge 5 speaker shows a great sound quality ! Really splendid and worth its money. It is very easy to connect using bluetooth to ie. macbook, ipad, iphone, easy to switch between them, reasonbly leightweight enough to carry along, but maybe too heavy to put in a backpack together with other stuff. (JBL also produces another lightweight travel-speaker with great sound for ie backpackers or your daily walks) I also bought a hardcase for safe transportation in my car giving me splendid music when camping without having to use the car battery ! Easy to charge the battery using car plugs + delivered usb connector. conclusion: good buy !
