Are these the thicker playing cards that are almost like card board?

not really, I bought 2 decks for a double deck game I learned! these were thinner that regular playing cards, but not really thin like paper.. they have held up fine so far now.. hope that helps.

The cards have pictures and numbers indicating their rank - no words at all, in English or Italian. I think the rules in English were included - but if not, they are easy enough to find online.
