The book's chapter on food is outdated.
The book's chapter on food contains some outdated information, and uses really narrow sited examples about why one should avoid certain foods. I would highly recommend doing your own research before implementing any dietary choices mentioned in the book.

One of the best books I've ever read for creating real change in my life
I didn't just read this book, I devoured it. Why? Because the author Kristen Willeumier has a talent for taking neuroscience off its lofty pedestal and making it relevant to everyday life. This book is packed with brainy insights but it doesn't make you feel like you're sitting in a lecture hall. Instead, it's like having a chat with a super smart friend who just happens to be an expert on the brain.I struggle to make changes in my life when I'm told, "do it because it's good for you." Awareness comes first but then I need to know why I need to make a change. I didn't even know that I was chronically dehydrated but then when she explained what that's actually doing to my brain, it was a game changer. I'd blamed normal aging for the fact that my eyes were always dry and burning. The minute I took her advice and started making sure I was properly hydrated, I no longer had dry eyes. I had pain in my right knee, probably from years of ballet. Her advice on taking Omega-3 supplements to reduce inflammation cleared that right up but it wasn't just any old Omega-3s, she was very specific about what kind of EFAs are the most important to reduce inflammation and boost brain function. Not only did the pain in my knee go away but my mood and focus improved as well. Her chapter on exercise and neurogenesis, the ability to grow new brain cells and improve learning and memory was fascinating and resulted in me adding even more aerobic exercise to my schedule.I loved this book and recommend it to brain enthusiasts and anyone looking to up their mental and physical game with simple, doable hacks. It's a game-changer.
